indicates a problem with cylinder #6 miss firing or not firing. could be plug, wire, ignition coil if its coil on plug, fuel injector, poor compression.
problem is that what auto zone told you was not complete
misfiring is more from faulty injectors/ injector control/wiring than from plugs and HT leads
so if you have replace the leads one for one then the problem will be the injectors
With the engine running and the cylinder misfiring tap (key word is tap) the injector with a screwdriver a couple of times. If the misfire goes away replace the injector.
Try moving the coil pack from cylinder 1 to another cylinder (swap locations) and see if the same code comes up. If code is different, then coil pack is bad. Other reasons for miss; bad injector, poor compression. Also, I know you changed plugs already, but always use AC Delco 43-103 plugs on this vehicle.
first do a cylinder compression test on engine to verify good engine compression this should be around 110psi to 175 psi check for vacuum leak, intake port for #6 cylindermay be leaking air, or also check coil for that cylinder, if wire and spark plug have already been changed, last replace fuel injector for that cylinder.
MISFIRING MEANS PLUGS NOT FIRING WHEN IT SUPPOSE TO.IF SPARK PLUGS HAVE OVER 100000 MILES ON THEM TIME FOR NEW PLUGS AND WIRES.IF ALL IS GOOD. A BAD COIL OR DIRTY FUEL INJECTORS TO BOTH CYLINDERS WILL CAUSE MISFIRE.
power not reaching cylinder 1 ignition coil. check electrical connections and wiring for any damage. test for power and ground at cylinder 1.
hope this helps.
Problem could be as simple as a vacuum leak around either of those cylinders. A vacuum leak can create a lean fuel mixure condition resulting in a miss fire. One thing to rememeber is that depending on the style of ignition in use. The opposing cylinder's spark plug and wires act as the return path for the unused voltage from the coils firing which is why you are having seemingly unrelated misfires. If either has a problem then the symptoms are shown in both cylinders.
