Volvo S80 Turbos

A repair tech told me I needed to replace both turbos in my volvo s80. He wants to charge me $3,600 for this-I think he is exaggerating the damages to make money. I have the manual for the car, and he kind of told me one turbo is ok after I told him I was taking the car back, and I think the other just needs to be cleaned and the seals replaced. A turbo is essentially an intake tube with no moving parts, right? How could it go "bad"? I don't think replacing the whole assembly is necessary -whats your professional opinion? I think I can do this myself and save tons of money. I may try to find a used turbo if it needs replacing.

Do not put on a used one,yes it has precession moving parts and if you did not now that do not try to replace it yourself/why did it fail, are you shore its bad ,most fail because of lack of oil changes or correct type oil ,make shure you fix the complete problem

Does my 2002 S80 Volvo have turbo or not?

is this a t6? if so yes. turbocharged engines have more horsepower than naturally asprirated engines, a turbo charger works like a supercharger by forcing more air into the intake, while a super charger is usually belt driven a turbocharger is exhaust driven, it will be located in the exhaust pipe or exhaust manifold and is turned by exhaust gases passing thu with the opposite side connected to the air intake pipeing, some have the intake air piped thru a intercooler which is mounted in front of the radiator(cooler air is more horsepower)
type 2002 s80 volvo in your search bar and you can find a ton of info

Need turbo replaced

You can take it to the dealer and have it replaced for 2,200 to 3,500 dollars.

Or, you can take it to an Independent Volvo Mechanic and spend a lot less!

Lastly, you can rebuild the bad one in your vehicle yourself for 300-500 dollars.

Turbo Boost sensor A

hi what was the code (p 0244)sounds like you need to replace the the turbo wastegate valve .sounds to me like its overboosting as if the charge from the turbo gets too hot the engine will misfire thus causing damage to engine ,the waste gate valve is there to prevent over pressurisation

2002 Volvo s80 t-6

This is what my code scanner says:
P0234 Engine Overboost Condition
If you have a non-turbo model, then it's probably something else. It may be a bad turbo overboost switch. My S80 is non-turbo but I had an overboost switch go out on my Mercedes and it shut down the turbo but I had the same error message. Good luck!
