Please monitor the current or voltage output from the charging alternator as well, using appropriate measuring meter e.g voltmeter or ohmmeter.

Hi, I have a Mitsubishi Chariot Grandis Exceed 1998 (4g64) and recently changed the engine. Prior to changing the engine the car had a shudder when driving approximately 70kmph. This appears to be caused by some sort of misfire as one can see the ref counter dropping and picking up slowly. After changing the engine I still have exactly the same problem which tells me it is not the engine. I took it in and they tested it with one of those plug in machines but to no avail as it did not pick up any faults. Due to the slight drop of the needle prior to the car shuddering, I cleaned out the injectors but this does not appear to be a part of the problem. This usually occurs more often when the engine is warmer and not when one start up and drive. Any ideas what can cause this?

My 1999 Grandis shuddered at particular speeds like 52 or 97km...no one knew why...I did a bit of research and concluded it was a build up of automatic transmission fluid on the drum or something...with a clean and change of fluid the shudder has gone. This is an ongoing problem though and will build up again! At least you now know you are not crazy!!

    Hi Guys.
I have a Mitsubishi Chariot Grandis 1998 GDI and I also am having the same problem.
I have read Audrey981 comments and sounds like it could be worth a try.
Two questions, the first is, Ballas2, did you try cleaning the drum and changing the gearbox oil? And if yes did it work for you?
And the second question is foe Audrey981, What drum and how do you clean the drum?
    Appreciate any help.

Looking at the valve mechanism of most mitsubishi, they are hydraulically adjusted by engine oil pressure. Running temperature has a significant role as the engine. Observing the nature of your problem it has to do with temperature rise of engine oil and viscosity of oil is affected, therefore check the following:1. engine oil pressure- maybe oil pressure drops to an extent that it cannot offer proper actuation of the valve adjusters, 2. engine oil filter- too much restriction, 3. sticking valves or adjusters due to temperature rise hence rendering valves not closing or opening as per required in performance, 4.try to swap ECU with a similar engine. 5. grade of oil, 6. oil pump performance.
Mostly important start with the least difficult repair procedures to more complicated ones. Am so sure that problem has to do with temperature rise of the engine and engine operations are affected causing it to stall.
Also check sensors that sends informs to ECU, e.g oxygen sensors in the exhaust system, maybe they are sending a wrong signal to ECU such that the ECU 'leans' the air/fuel mixture into the engine to an extent that is cannot burn as required hence stalling.

10 second means fuel system shut down because of one or another sensors reading below or out of range most likely oil pressure but could be other things

I have Mitsubishi chariot gdi 4G64 it crank but not start

For older (1990's) cars, If it has a distributor (rather than a spark block assembly), there is a coil inside, under the rotor.
If a spark block which is controlled by the ECU, check fuses.

Verify that the camshaft timing belt has not jumped a few teeth. If the timing belt has just been removed and replaced, it was likely done incorrectly.

What causes my 2001 mitsubishi GDI car to be firing only on number 2 and 3 cylinders

Check to see if #1 &4 use a common coil pack. If so, = likely culprit.

I have a 1999 mitsubishi chariot gdi,the car revs even when idle what could be the problem?

The problem could be a bad throttle position sensor or a bad idle air control valve.I would remove them and test them for proper operation .These test s should be done by your local service station because every car has a different procedure for testing these sensors.Any of the sensors on your car can be tested but like I stated they all have different procedures.

My Mitsubishi Chariot Grandis gdi wont start, it attempts but fails. what is the problem? My battery is new,got enough fuel and the plugs are also new

You say that it attempts but fails. If it turns over, at a normal speed and tries to start and doesn't, check that the fuel is good and new fuel. Not fuel that has been in the tank for a long time. Check the fuel filter to see if it is clogged, Check the fuel injectors to see if they are all spraying fuel and there is enough pressure in the fuel lines. Check fuel pump for proper fuel pressure. High mileage engines check for compression in each cylinder. Possible bad ignition wires or ignition timing is off. Has the engine been steam cleaned recently. Is there water in the fuel? This gives you some things to check. Good luck.

I have a 1999 mitsubishi chariot gdi. the problem is it starts but cuts out within 10 second start. The car is also running to rich & the spark plugs are black. we had it scaned & the airflow meter...

I would have the car plugged into a scan tool and check the data screen for the coolant temp sensor to see what it's reading. The sensor should be reading around the same temp.as out side the car when the car is cold or same temp as the temp gauge if the car is warm.If it's reading way too cool it is mostlikely your problem giving it way to much fuel.
