My guess is your fuel pumps built in fuel pressure check valve is defective and the truck is running lean until the fuel line pressurizes, a very common problem.
You'll need to check the circuit from the fuel pump relay back to the pump. The computer grounds the relay. If the pump is running the filter could be clogged.
