The Effects of Over Revving a motor can be Catastrophic. I do not understand why the government would require someone to do such a test. Normal Emissions Testing is done at High (2100 - 2500) and the Idle (500-900).
Reason for Increased Smoke.... As you increase the internal pressure of the vehicle, you are creating a VACUUM and this is suckking the Oil past the rings, and anywhere else that it is causing the Vacuum.
Efffects of Over Revving van be Premature Failure of the engine (Could cost you $5-$8,000 to replace)... I would ask WHY so high... A Diesel would MAX OUT their RPM @ 4,000.
These people who are doing the test, ask them to show you where it says in WRITING 4,000... That is much higher than in the 4 states I have been certified to be an I/M Inspector
4.5 qts. 5w30 (preferred) or 10 w 30 w/ filter change. Filter is wix 50140 oor Fram 3387a. You should be able to cross those numbers to whatever brand you have available.
You will need to use a 10W-30 grade engine oil, such as any of the following Mobil products. "Fully synthetic" oils are more expensive. Conventional oils or syn blend engine oils are fine for the vehicle but need to be changed more frequently.
5w 30 is best for this engine, especially in the colder season. I recommend Amsoil, Castrol, Or Valvoline are some of the best oils. It's solely up to you. If you have high mileage, then high mileage oil has a better protection and longer life.
That all depends on where u live and the mileage on the car. In florida we use 10w30 or 10w40 upnorth is diff because of the cold weather. But generally it should be 10w30 the have that in high mileage.
it could also be the oil pan gasket, or the manifold gasket. if it's the manifold gasket, when you remove the manifold to replace it, take the time to clean out the mixing chamber. it'll be filled with gunk and cleaning will improve gas mileage.
