One or more of the pulleys is out of line or the idler or tensioner is defective and coming apart, the best thing to do is have them all pulleys checked for misalignment to stop this, many times the crankshaft pulley separates from the rubber ring that dampens crankshaft vibrations and the pulley walks outward. It takes a trained eye to see these pulley alignment issues, suggest you have a trusted shop look at this for you. Even a slight misalignment will eat up or throw off the belt.
Do I understand that you are using the wrong belt? If so you must use the correct belt.
All the pulleys Must have the same number of belt grooves, that is a must, so consult the local Lexus dealer or a good parts store like Napa or Carquest to assist in getting the pulley situation corrected then get the correct pulleys for this car and the correct belt size and also check to see that the belt is not misaligned and your problem should be solved..
You must have the wrong alternator, because there is NO adjustment allowed for in the way it attaches to the engine, you need a professional to look at this.

The Alternate has 6 grooves. It cut the belt down to 4 grooves. Can the car run with 4 grooves on the belt. Bougth a new alternator and it does the same thing. Eats the new belt down to 4 grooves. Can I put a spacer on the alternator making the pulley go out further so it will take all 6 grooves. Do they sell pulleys for alternator for 10 grooves. The new alternator has six grooves but when installed it cuts 2 grooves short on the belt. The pulley has 6 grooves but when you put the alternator on the belt it does not reach out far enough (so it cuts off two grooves). It is two grooves short on the belt even thou it has 6 grooves. If it fit better all 6 grooves would fit and the belt would not cut. What should I do?
Pulley and belt both have 6 grooves. Because the Alternator does not fit properly it cut two grooves off the belt. How do you aline the alternator so it does not cut the two grooves off the belt.
Repeat: Alternator Pulley and belt have 6 grooves and are the proper parts for the car.
All parts are the right parts for the car.
For some reason when we put the alternator in it sit back to far cutting two grooves off the belt.
How do you move the alternator forward so the 6 pulley grooves and 6 belt grooves match. It only has to be moved forward two grooves for it to work. Should I put spacers between the alternator and the pulley to make the 6 grroves in the pulley line up with the 6 grooves in the belt?
Both alternator pulley and belt have 6 groves. Every thing is Lexus parts.
