2008 Toyota Prius Logo
Posted on Jun 23, 2011

I have a 2006 Prius. A few days a go the GPS system failed to turn on. It says something like..."unable to locate the CD/DVD...???" The car was involved in a "fender bender" a few months ago, but the unit has been working fine since. The dealer wants $89 just to tell me what is wrong. Then I would have to pay additionally for repair. Any idea what is wrong? Any suggestion for an easy fix?

Eject the map DVD from the drive under the driver's seat and clean it, slide the seat all the way forward and you should see a door on the unit and an eject button. If the carpet is wet in that area it is possible that the impact caused a leak and water damaged the Nav DVD drive unit.

2007 Toyota Prius, driving on freeway, everything shut off, coasted to a stop, could still roll down windows and use blinkers and locks- one day later and unable to use these functions. What's wrong?

Dont quote me here as no idea on this newer car but i suspect that the alternator has failed and the circuits is such that it will not run on the battery alone ,only reason i say this is because the old renault twingo and some models of the clio do the same ,if the alternator fails then car car will stop and you cannot restart it no matter how thick your jumper leads are .

Does a water pump on a 2006 Prius that is "leaking" via the weep hole indicate that the pump needs to be changed asap or is this something that should be eventually addressed? BTW: the converter...

Hi, leaking via weep hole indicates the water pump seal is bad....pump is shot. I would consider this an urgent fix. Any coolant leak is an urgent fix......MIke

Dash lights go off when head lights are turned on.

Your car is perfectly fine. Your dash dimmer is turned all the way down. Your dash dimmer automatically turns on with your headlights. You need to locate your dash dimmer and turn it up.( will be easy to locate with owners manual).

2006 PRIUS GPS CAN'T READ DVD MAP

Have you tried cleaning the disk? Also inspect it for deterioration. The surface should be clean and scratch free. The reflective surface should be uniform. Nothing that looks like water marks or deterioration. Also you might want to try putting a cleaning disk as is used for CD/DVD players in there to clean the lens surface.

2004 Prius Check Engine Light - code POA93

P0A93 is an inverter cooling problem. The inverter is cooled by a dedicated cooling system, which consists of an electric water pump, cooling fan, and radiator. This cooling system is independent of the engine cooling system. The mechanic should check if there is sufficient amount of coolant for the inverter, check if the coolant hose is not bent or clogged, if the water pump / cooling fan motor connections are ok, and of course if both of the cooling fan motors are OK.

P3108 is generally loosing communication with the A/C system control module. This can usually be solved by checking the wires and or the converter inverter assembly.
