This could be a possibility of a bad connection to the engine speed sensor or in other terms flywheels sensor or TDC sensor located under the thermostat housing screwed to the gearbox by two bolts, when the problem occurs try playing around with the connector connected to the TDC sensor and then try to start it, renault has a new modified connector and TDC sensor on the market.
I hope this helps.
hi all i have fixed the problem please note this is for the renault scenic 1.9 dti 1998 reg. i had taken the casing off on top of the engine the one that covers it all for noise meaning the black cover. and looking back to the bulk head to the right hand side you can see 2 hoses which are side by side which are going into the car i dis connected both hoses and got a hose pipe and blasted them into the heater matrix with water (cold) and i dont no if this was a good idea but i got a mop bucket full of hot water reason why hot is because the engine was hot and poured it in to the tank where you top up your water just to fluss the system when it was filling i started the engine then kept pouring the water in when bucket was empty turned engine of asap re connected both hoses. on the LARGE hose you have a bleed screw i had taken that of completly then started the engine to let the water bleed through but again kept pouring water in the top up tank half a mop bucket whilst engine was running i replaced the bleed screw and hey presto the job was done i have not had any heating in the car for 4 yrs but now its hot hot hot. hope this helps to all with the scenic
Either the replacement sensor the windscreen technician should have fitted isnt connected properly to the glass or it has developed an intermittant fault - quite common with Renaults especially megane scenics and grand scenics....
