If it's leaking that bad, open the hood take off radiator cap and fill with water (without making a mess and spilling a bunch. Then simply watch for where the leak is at, if it's leaking from a hose, the radiator, or from around the area where the belt is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. If it's leaking from the passenger side around the belt area your water pump is the most common cause. They are made so when the bearing wears out around the shaft the pulley bolts, it has what are called weep holes and the water just runs out to tell you to replace the water pump.

If your water pump went bad would hear a bad noise near the pump because it has to constantly keep pumping the radiator fluids around and inside the engine to keep it cool enough at all time. Your problem is that there is a leak with one of your connections of the hoses so you have to do a simple test by putting more fluid into the radiator and then start the car so the engine gets hot while having the hood up so you can see where the leak is coming from but also you might have to put the car on ramps and get underneath the car with a flashlight because one of the hoses underneath might be leaking so you can detect where the leak is coming from so you can replace or repair the problem.

It's not that common for a bad water pump to actually make noise. I've had about a thousand of them go out and never make a sound, they just leak water. I'm sure that they could make noise but isn't the first thing to check to see if the water pump is bad for sure. Other then that we are on the same page.

Engine overheating

It may only be the temp sensor in the radiator that activates the fan. If that fan don't work, the engine will overheat. Heat forces water out upon expansion is why you see the leak in driveway. Check the temp sensor in the radiator before changing anything else my friend. That sensor won't cost that much. You can always remove the wires off the sensor an hook them together then take it for a drive with the fan always on. It won't overheat then unless you really do have a coolant leak, but still sounds to me like a bad temp sensor. Luck toya Bro.

My 1997 subaru impreza squeals badly and then engine smokes

Hi this sounds weird does the smoke come out from the front engine covers? the squealing could be the cambelt trying to turn a semi or completly ceased waterpump which would cause the smoke after a while, also without the waterpump working properly the engine will leak water and anti freeze out the overflow and overheat really quickly

Leaking anti freeze. But not from the radiator.??

If it is coming from the front of the engine and almost dead center, then probably the waterpump is going bad. The waterpump is located underneath the timing covers (2 pieces), and requires you remove the timing belt to change it. I can email you a procedure for removing and reinstalling the timing belt if you wish. Send a request to [email protected] if you decide to change the waterpump.

Anti freeze is leaking between the motor and the fan housing , what are the possible causes ? It looks like part of a round rubber gasket is hanging out ?

Sounds like your waterpump has gone bad. Could be fan belt broke that drives waterpump (would explain large rubber pce hanging out) Have a reputable shop look at it for you.

Engine warms well, heater fan blowing well, but very little heat comes into cab

It could be one of two things.
1. Bad thermostat. Your thermostat is pobably not opening when the engine warms up. Install a new thermostat and you should be OUT OF THE COLD. If not,
2. Your heating core and radiator is probably clogged. One way to solve this is. Flush out your radiator with radiator flush kit. Pease read your owners manual, (YOU NEED TO USE A SPECIAL TYPE OF ANTI FREEZE). If you use the the green color Presotne anti freeze, It will gradually corrode through the linings of your radiator. And the green color prestone anti freeze will blow out the radiator. So read your owners malual ( I beleive it says you have to use Dextron Anti Freeze ( Pink Color).. Replace your thermostat and flush out your radiator. Then refill your radiator with dextron anti freeze. Also make sure the anti freeze resivor is filled to the proper level.. Once you do all of this, YOU DEFFINITLY WILL BE IN HEAT.. YOU CAN DO THIS YOUR SELF ( iT WOULD TAKE ME NO MORE THAN 1 TO 2 HOURSFOR ME TO DO THIS IN MY DRIVEWAY) OR YOU CAN HAVE THIS DONE AT ANY QUICK LUBE LOCATIONS... HAPPY MOTORING

I heard a squiky noise like some kinda old belt rotating, then it stop. 2 miles later i saw temp rise. i pulled over and antifreeze was splatter from the top of radiator.

Check the radiator hoses for a leak. The splatter was most likely the coolant/anti-freeze leaking from one of the hoses. Loss of coolant would make the temp rise and the engine overheat. If the hoses are good, look for seepage around the waterpump. These are the main causes for coolant loss.
