The first thing you should do is check all related fuses. There is a fuse box at the right front in the engine compartment. There is also a smaller one inside the car to the left of the brake pedal. Each location should have cover with a diagram of each fuses purpose.
Next, you'll need to check whether fuel and spark is getting to the cylinders. You might consider having a mechanic determine this for you. Some repair facilities such as Pep Boys will tow your vehicle to their shop for free as long as you're within a certain distance. Keep me posted...

The best way is to make sure you give the correct information IE: yr, make, engine size, and VIN. That will ensure the correct trans. As far as knowing if it is a good trans, the best advise I can give is to make sure it is a reputable parts dealer, and make sure it is a low mileage trans (if used), make sure they offer a warranty, and have them or yourself pull the pan to inspect it for metal shavings.

The only way to know for sure is with a new belt. I have done 100's of these, it is the most reasy reliable way, a T. belt is not that much money.
SOURCE: 1998 GALANT W/ 130,000 MI. TIME TO CHANGE THE
Should be on your 2nd timing belt. If you have the 4cyl engine there is a balance belt that needs to be changed also. Mitsubishi recomends replacement at every 60,000 miles, your 10k over. Most of the time these motors are not interferance engines, But I have seen a few that broke a belt at high rpm that did bent valves......
