I WAS INSTALLING A RADIO AND TOUCHED A HOTWIRE THAT WAS RUNNING TO MY FUSE PANEL, ATTACHED TO THE FUEL PUMP FUSE. MY TRUCK SHUT OFF. NOW IT WILL NOT MAKE A SOUND AND WON'T START. ALL OF THE LIGHTS WILL LIGHT UP AND EVERYTHING ELSE SEEMS FINE BUT IT WILL NOT EVEN TRY TO START. ALL FUSES ARE OK, RELAYS WORK PROPERLY AS WELL. I DO NOTICE THAT I DON'T HEAR THE FUEL PUMP WHEN I TURN THE SWITCH! IT'S ACTING AS IF THE BATTERY OF ALT HAS DIED BUT NORMALLY WHEN THAT HAPPENS I CAN'T DO ANYTHING NOR GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION.

Check your fusible links (wires that act like a fuse). The fusible links are located on the battery post on the starter, and some are located on the positive battery cable.

hey joe! thx for responding! you mean check them as in use a test light or what? it's weird that touching a hot wire to a radio shut the car off. i'm a diesel tech so radios and cars aren't my fancy but this is a first.
i'll give em a look. thx for response

Use a 12 volt test light and see that the fusible links all have power. If you find one without power that's the source of your trouble. You're very welcome and good luck to you.

I stalled a fuel pump on 2002 GMC Sonoma 4 cyl. She stared right upI installed a fuel pump on my 2002 GMC Sonome engine 4 cyl. It started righd not startet up. But, after driven 2 miles, stalled

It is very important to look at the four pin connector that plugs onto fuel tank sending unit the hot wire that runs the pump gets loose and burn the connector making intermittent connection they make a replacement plug for this problem also check the connections on the inside i have those fail once.

I DONT KNOW IF U ARE A MECHANIC BUT THE BEST WAY TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM IS GETTING A WIRING SCHEMATIC. IT WILL HELP U SEE IF ANYTHING ELSE IS WIRED INTO THE CIRCUIT BESIDES THE FUEL PUMP

1988 ford truck f-150 xlt lariat cant get current to fuel pump

Have you checked the 'inertia switch' which in the event of an accident shuts off the fuel supply to prevent a fire . It's usually located in the cab on pass. side. Some models have one reset button, some 2 which have to be pressed at the same time. If that's not it, here's how the power to the pump SHOULD work, you will have to follow the path to see where it stops. When you turn the key on it turns on the EEC power relay on, this relay then provides power to the PCM (power control module) and the control side of the fuel pump relay. Power for the fuel pump is supplied through a fuse link or high current fuse attached to the starter solenoid (battery side). From the fuse link or high current fuse current flows thru the fuel pump relay and inertia switch to the fuel pump. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the PCM. When the ignition switch is turned on the fuel pump will operate, if the switch is NOT turned to start position, the PCM will shut off the fuel pump off after 1 second. This is to avoid flooding the engine when it is not running, just key on. So check out to see if you have a fuse link or a high current fuse and if they are blown.

Fuel pumps will not run!

Hey lets try this ! Locate your starter solenoid & look for a yellow wire marked with a "W" . That may be the fusible link for fuel pump. Let me know what you find.
