You may have an issue with your BCM (body control module) when it fails, it takes everything with it and pretty much makes the car a heavy paperweight. your BCM is the brain for the vehicle like the ECM is for the engine compartment

SOURCE: No rear brake light / turn signals on 2001 Chevy Cavalier

The problem is the turn signal/headlight/hazard switch assembly on the steering column which the brake light wiring runs through. The part is easy to change and cost about $50 at most parts stores

SOURCE: Chev Cavalier 2003 only one rear turn/brake/hazard light

I have a 2002 Chev Cavalier that had the same exact problem. I replaced the bulb harness (purchased from a chevy dealership for around $5) which was fairly easy to do. I have had zero problems with it since.

SOURCE: electrical problem

Find the ground wire on one of the lights and add another ground wire to a good clean metal surface and see if that fixes the problem. It defently sounds like a ground problem at one of the lights.

SOURCE: 99 cavalier Smoke coming out from under dashboard!

now this may be a long shot... but i had a similar problem on my cutlass. but it wasnt wiring...... it was from the tube running from the head of my engine...... the smell and smoke were coming from hot oil coming out of the crank case vent tube and then being sucked into the air inlet for the heater/ ac.

since a electrical wire's protective cover is petroleum based as is oil.... they smell very similar

2001 Honda CRV, it will start & then suddenly dies going down road, after a little bit it will start back up & then dies again after you get going

why replace very expensive parts, guessing.?
so runs ok , dies runs ok, dies, ? is that it? hot, and cold?
did you do the 60k tune up yet, this repeats ever 60k miles.
that be first.
then see if you can save the STALL , with a fast right foot action.
yes, and has full power up any hill at that time, its not the fuel pump.
stalls have 4 major causes and 4 tests..
you can do the tests. or spend a fortune guessing, its your car and your bread (cash).
one very common cause is the EGR sticking open , the main EGR valve.
other:
1: 12vdc lost to the EFI system, the dash goes dead. lost elect. power.
2: lost compression , can happen hot engine only.
3: bad spark.
4: bad fueling.
there are simple tools and simple tests for each
do you want to test, or gue$$?

(EGR sticking or iSC sticking both can be clean before spending big cash guessing parts)

the fast foot answer, is the KEY FACTORY answer that
1 question and 1/2 the work stops. ive posted this many times.
and not one answer,
car starts to stall?
i slam right foot to floor.
engine, dies, or
is easy to save stall
or hard,
if i can save it , I IMMEDIATELY check for full engine power.
go that?

I was driving down the road and lost power..no gas..no brakes...no steering.

did it restart?
the engine stalled, as such you
get
no engine power
no P/S reverts to manual steering, you did not loose steering.
same with P/B power brakes, you didnt lose it you lost power
assist, brakes will stop just as vast but takes a husky foot.
in school (driving) we were though to drive, stalled engine.
i guess most school went dumb. (seen it)
now stalls
engine stall for a vast number or reasons.

do that tuneup not called the 60k mile service point list. did you.?
cars ignored all fail, no car runs 300k miles service free,
skip them and get stranded, (i promise)

1: lost electric power to the EFI system.
2: engine overheated or lost compression for any reasons (complex)
3: lost spark
4: lost fuel
5: too much fuel, flooding, and stalling.
6: egr sticks open.
7: ISC sticks closed.
8:if not restart, say so and list expands way more...

cars are complex, it's not like a burned out desk lamp.
vast complexity and after 2007 , insane complexity.
avoid them 2007 and newer, sans NASA engineer.

I have a 97 chevy cavalier with a 2.2 liter engine and an automatic trans. i replaced the head gasket and it ran fine for about a month. Then it suddenly started sputtering and stalling, it also had a loss...

you need to take the car to a muffler shop and have the catylitic converter changed... the converter is stopped up not letting the exaust leave the engine thus stopping it.

I cant find the fuse for a 2001 checy cavalier washer fluid motor

the fuse for it is in the instrument panel fuse box inside and it is the wiper fuse, voltage goes threw the wiper switch into the washer motor. check the red wire for power when you hit your washer, and check the black wire for good ground if all is ok then your problem is probably the wiper switch.

Check engine light is on and now the truck is spitting and sput

i would take it back. they should cover it. sounds like mass air flow sensor. if it was barelly detailed it water might of seeped into the intake thus sucking small amount of water which then causes sputtering and a little lack of power.

94 Cavalier Suddenly looses all power.

turn the car on, disconnect the battery, if it dies immediately, your alternator is most likely bad. take to autozone or your nearest auto parts store to have it tested.

2001 Hyundai Accent 167,000 miles

At 167,000 miles there will be wear on the piston bores and rings this means you will be burning off oil even during normal running

Standing test is to make sure that the car is in park and get someone to really rev the engine for a few seconds let it die down and do it again repeat this 6 or so times and I bet you will see a thin blue smoke coming from the muffler

2000 Cavalier engine dies and smokes ours from under hood

Was it using oil or did you have to add antifreeze occasionally? It sounds like it either got hot and you cooked the engine, or it ran out of oil and you cooked the engine.

89 toyota pickup electrical problems

Sounds like you have an intermittent electrical problem. Check your positive battery wire going into your fuse box the connection becomes loose. I have seen 2 or 3 Toyota pickups have the a similar problem. Also check Battery connections and the ground cable.

If your pickup has a loose battery cables and/or wires it can not charge to it full potential no matter how new your alternator or your battery. Try turning on your head lights and wiggling your battery wires if the lights go dim or flicker, chances are that wire is loose or has a bad connection.
