Based on the age of the car I'd say the window motors are shot, you can probably find replacements at an auto parts store or junk yard? But with junk yard motors you could have the same problem next week. They are not difficult to replace, you just have to pull off the door panel on the inside and the new one should bolt right into place of the old one.
You may have to drill out the old rivets, but the new one should have bolts to replace. You'll probably have to spend about $100 per side, but that's a lot better then $400-500 a repair shop will charge.
It is a common problem for the window regulators to fail on many makes of cars nowdays, and that sounds like what going on with your car. They will have to be replaced as an assembly.
NEED TO CK IF THERE IS POWER TO THE SWITCH, CK IF SWITCH IS LOSE , INSIDE DOOR PANEL ,CK WINDOW MOTOR,RUN IT DIRECT TO TEST THAT THE MOTOR IS IN RUNNING CONDTION ,
check all fuses, and check driver door master switch and the wiring going to it. sometimes a wire or to break were they come out of door and go inside to dash.good luck.
take the door panal back off. Using a test light disconnect the window motor and run your test light across the two termails hook the switch up and run the switch up and down. If the light lights then the window motor is no good. If the light does not light check to see that there is power going to the switch. Another place to check is in the body to door pass throught sometime the wires brake there
It could be the fuse, does it go down? If not chk. fuse, if fuse ok, see if you can help it down by pushing down on window wile working switch, and also same wile trying to go up, if it don't work or if its slow chanses are the motor is tired and needs replaced or its lost power like bad switch or broken wire. there is also a chanse it came off the track in witch case the door panel will have to be removed.
I've had a similar problem with my 2003 Buick Century. In my case, the driver's side front window one day went up and would not come down. I knew that the switch was malfunctioning by sticking in the up position since the window continued up despite the fact that Iet off the switch when the window was half way up and it continued going up. I had to pull over and pull the master switch assembly from the door panel and unplug it to prevent the window motor from being damaged by the constant power feeding it after the window was up. Basically, it would have burned the motor out. I cleaned the switch and it now works fine most of the time. I still need to replace the assembly. Not sure this is the reason in your case. I would check the back window and see if it goes down with the switch on the back door panel. If it does, then you are having problem with the master switch assembly on your front door panel. Moisture from rain from the window being down during rain or dirt may have corroded the switches' contacts.
