X TYPE 3.0 JAG. I HAVE A FAULT CODE P1647 AND ENGINE LIGHT ON DASH BOARD IS ON. WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I TAKE NO NOTICE OF THIS AS THE CAR IS FINE ?

That P1647 fault code is for the upstream oxygen sensor on bank 2. This is the top sensor on the front exhaust cat converter. The usual failure is the sensor itself but you should inspect the harness that runs under and clipped to the battery tray. It is the sensor with the gray connector
Driveability will not be effected at the present, but it should be corrected in a timely manner to prevent damge to other componets, such as the catalytic converter.

Good luck, i hope this helps & thanks for using FixYa!

I have a p1646 code on my jaguar x type i have changed the broken sensor and ping engine check light *** bk on can u please help its driving me mad

I would have the code checked again if it is still 1646 then you need to check the connector and wiring for this sensor.

Just to confirm that the sensor you changed is the rear (near the engine bay bulkhead) upstream (upper sensor of the two) , in most cases a grey connector.

P1647 on a 2005 jaguar x tpye, change o2 sensors on both banks ,still have same problem

P1647 is not nesesarily a fault with the sensor
Linear O2 Sensor Control Chip (Bank 2) could be faulty wiring or the ecu. Check the connections on the loom sides give the wires a gentle tug (don't pull them out) look for short circuits loom damage etc.

Trouble code p1647

hi, i work as a mechanic and have just had this code (p1647)on an 02 2.5 ltr x type. got the definition for 02 banks as well. as there are 2 sensors on each bank i took a look at the live data and it showed a slugish response on sensor two(after the cat). unplugging the sensor in the front cat brought up another code for bank two sensor two so this is obviously the right sensor. changed sensor and sent the car out, hope this helps, jon.
