Hello and thanks for the question,
The anti lock brakes system is somewhat complex. There are many reasons as to why the ABS lamp flashed on and the back off ( ie. Wheel speed sensors, relays, poor power supply, bad grounds). There's really no other way of telling without haveing the codes retrieved from the ABS module( computer).

I just located your ABS speed sensor online for roughly $26 dollar each and the labor requires alittle more than just an hour. Even if the labor rate was $100 an hour it would still be cheaper to do it your self. Most often you can go to your local library and rent a hanes or chilton's manual. I will post the site's address below.

Wow., You are a WEALTH of information THANKS!!! Ok NOW, the shop just called and said a "ring?" was broken on the axle and htey have to replqace the axle. . .yet another $100. .. any suggestons???

You stated that it is the right side axle, is it the front or the rear and does your truck have 4 wheel drive? I was looking on the same site and found axle shaft for around $70.00, minus shipping of course. The tone ring cost only about $7.00, but you will still have to remove the axle in order to replace it, so I would just recommend replacing the entire shaft. The job takes a little under an hour to complete.

    Best of luck to you.

If the ABS light is on, that means there's a trouble code stored in the computer. If you clear the code but don't fix the problem, the light will just come on again. You have to fix the problem

Try bleeding some brake fluid on that side. You may have a blockage. Also check if the rotor is in good condition, it may be warped. Good luck!

ABS light on in my 2005 Mazda Tribute. Just had an oil change and tire rotated. Also steam cleaned the engine yesterday. The brake fluid is low. I will try filling that.

You do not steam clean any engines from
1985 on, or you will have problems with water
intruding electical connectors & more

Brake fluid won't be low
As the pads wear & caliper piston moves out,
fluid level goes down, not an issue

The ABS light you should already know is a Vehicle
System Malfunction & we have had those or similar
lights on the dash of all vehilces for 30 years
So nothing new at all. Check for codes, diagnose &
have the ABS Braking System repaired

Change brakes on 2006 mazda tribute

mcdevito75 here, That is a heavy duty job even for a good, good weekend mechanic, The truth is, as you know, you can run into a dozen problems that can and will leave you haveing to tow your vehicle to the shop. First you would need the TOOLs in American and Metric sizes as both American and Metric Nuts and Bolts are included on your Mazda, Then a Hydraulic jack that can hold at least 1 corner of the Mazda off the ground and--be able to with-stand the rocking motion as you did the job, Then you"d have to be concerned with parts, suppose you get the wrong parts, suppose you find a frozen or broken part, such as a brake hose, now you would have to bleed the brake system too. It"s very smart you are willing to do your own brakes BUT EVEN WISER TO KNOW, TO MANY PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE JOB. BEST BET, look for a sale on Brakes with-in you area, The tools, time and effort even if the job went smoothly, would cost about the same as the shop. Look for a sale, and have the shop do your brakes.
