2006 mazda 3 72,000 miles AT warning light came on for a couple of seconds then went off. Then while diving 45 mph the transmission downshifts from 5th to 3rd while accellerating. and makes a moderate clunk sound. It did this twice today. My mechanic checks the error codes and found none.

you'll hjave to get the vehicle scanned for codes. it could be a variety of problems. eg. egr, O2 sensor . without scanning it for codes you could be replacing may different parts in your vehicle. take it to a repair shop where they have the equiptment to check for codes.

bad design flaw with the transmission kick down cable make sure you are in OD first but if you are then this cable is adjustable it is next to the throttle cable and tells the trans when to downshift only adjust very little increments as this can easily blow your tanni as you may already know this feeling

SOURCE: transmission kicks shifting to second gear

This is a known issue with certain '03 and '04 MPV transmissions; my 2003 had the same problem. There is a Mazda technical service bulletin about this - 05-003/004 (Shift Shock). You need to take the van to a qualified shop and have them flash the transmission control module (TCM) with new firmware.

I had this done. It did not completely fix the problem but it did reduce its occurrence.

If it has less than 100,000 miles it is under warranty. Most vehicles have a 100,000 mile warranty on drive train. It will save you hundreds of dollars. .

1999 silverado transmission

Since the transmission shifting and torque converter lock (cruise speeds) up are computer controlled you need to have a scanner hooked up that can read Transmission control module (TCM) fault codes. Also check for engine codes as this could be a misfire, but in that case the check engine light should be flashing while the engine is misfiring and set a fault code. If no codes of any kind are present in memory when the testing is done you almost certainly have a mechanical fault in the transmission like a malfunctioning torque converter clutch, but even that should set a fault code, so have the testing done.

1955 Ford Crwn Vic neutral switch will permit start in any gear not just neut or park. Is this a 2 or 3 speed auto transmission? will start in drive selection and only shift once witn no kickdown gear at...

A 1955 Ford would have a Ford-o-matic transmission which has three speeds forward. The transmission starts out in second gear unless you shift into low.
I am not aware of these transmissions having a neutral safety switch.
The 3 speed automatic transmissions that started in low and had a downshift to second under load were first used in the mid 1960s.

Engine surge at 45-55 mph on 2002 Silverado 5.3l engine

I would start looking for a vacuum leak. Check all the vacuum lines for cracks or breakage. Spray penetrating fluid on them until you hear the engine start to stumble then focus the spray on that area until you are able to pinpoint the location of the leak. Best of luck,my friend, Dana
