The part is 22.99 at Autozone,The freon has to be removed,then the old part has to be taken out,then new part installed,then system has to be leak tested,then new freon has to be installed,Since you probably don't have all the tools needed like me,I had my system done by Midas,my evaporator core was clogged up from a mouse nest and air from the blower motor couldn't go thru it,I couldn't take it out of the box cause I would have to unscrew lines and let freon out,so I let Midas do it,my 85 Nissan 720 4x4 is 30 years old,so I had them put a new expansion valve on.It is in the same box as the evaporator core,was only 20 something bucks,plus my truck had the old type freon in it and they put different fittings on the lines to install new type of freon,now my a.c. is ice cold.I recently myself put a new heater core in it and replaced the carpet,and changed the color from black to gray,it is so hot here in Georgia.I looked around on prices and Midas was the best,get a warranty too.Here's my 30 year old truck,had her for 22 years,better than new.

The expansion valve is bolted directly to the evaporator core. You will need to recover the Freon before attempting to remove this. Once the Freon has been recovered, and the expansion valve removed, be sure to cap off any and all a/c lines to prevent excess air/moisture from entering the system. Once the new valve is installed, you will need to pull a 30 hg vacuum on the system for at least 30 minutes then recharge with the proper amount of Freon.

It's real simple: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. "An overabundance of freon" sounds like "we don't have a clue, it's wortking OK, but we don't have enough work to do." Ask the dealer what they did with the "extra" freon (remembering of course that it's illegal to vent it).

If your engine ovrheated (which can be caused by a bad thermostat), it may have sent some strange signals to your car's HVAC system.

To check for leak in evaporator,charge the system fully,with green neon dye,and use the glasses made for that.Let the ac run a good bit ,and condensation is leaking from the evaporator case,and look for the dye in the condensation.

It can be a bad temperature sensor somewhere or it may just require cleaning. As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you have the evaporator cleaned for if it's full of dirt air will surely be warm.

It can be lacking freon too so have it checked and refilled.

you need the compressor running to get freon into the system
using gauges on a manifold you allow the compressor to suck the gas in to the system until you get a pressure reading at the high side gauge
That is the correct amount of gas for the system
take it to an accredited ac specialist shop to have the job done properly

Probably the neutral safety switch. With your foot on the brake, try moving through the gears as you hold the key to start.
