1992 Chevrolet K1500 Logo

I have a 1992 Chevy 1/2 ton 5.7 Litre 1500 series truck. The truck while idling suddenly stalled. I verified the fuel pump by taking the pump side off to the filter and verified fuel to the filter by turning the ignition and hearing the pump energizing. I did replace the filter and then verified fuel to the injectors. After sitting for an hour the truck will start again and then run for a minute to several minutes. I have even revved the engine and watched the fuel flow from both injectors into the throttle body. This tells me I am getting fuel to the throttle body. Fuel is running into the throttle body and then suddenly the engine stalls immediately. The engine doesn't sputter and choke then shut down, it shuts down quick. One time while the engine was running I put the filter and lid back on and it quit immediately. Almost seems like the old carb days where the o2 mixture is crazy but of course this isn't a carb. When the truck is idling it idles smooth and perfect before dying. Any help on this matter would be great. Thank you in advance.

Thank you very much for the information. I will try a old fashioned tune up. The spark makes sense but, wouldn't it start immediately and then stall again? After it stalls it will not start again for a while. After an hour it will start and also in the mornings I can go out there in the morning and it starts. This morning it ran for 2 1/2 minutes and then stalled. I wonder why it takes a while before it will start again if it is a spark issue.

Doesn't sound like you've considered spark. Sounds like you're losing spark somehow. You seem to know your way around a truck, so I don't have to explain every little thing. Just check all the ignition stuff, go through the distributor and coil and plugs and wires. If it's gettin fuel, its either a spark issue or air/vaccum issue. Hope this helps.

Hmm, that is strange. But the reason it sounds like a spark issue is that there isn't sputtering or bogging down. It suddenly dies instead of sputtering and running rough first.

Hi I own a suburban 1500 sle 1992 5.7l He stalls everywhere and everytime. I changed fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. What will i do. I m in france.

If it stalls at stops and starts right up again, more then likely its a ad ISC motor ( idle speed control), that's what controls the idle, front the front looking at the motor, sit on the left rear of the throttle body.Hope this was very helpful.

I have a 1992 1/2 ton Chevy diesel and it wont start.? It used to start and run but wen I would let off the gas too fast it would stall. Now I just used my truck all day mostly highway travel and its stuck...

Not likely fuel lift. This seems to be an indivation of a fialed fuel distribuot. Now one thing I know about these trucks is as military, we like them. If you are and used soem of the fuel we use for the HMMWV you will not idle and do potential damage to the distributor. If you want to cover your bases, to check the fuel lift pump, it should operate around 5-6 PSI. Let me know and I will find more info and tests for you.

1992 Chevy Camero RS - will idol but when you give it gas it stalls. We replaced everything including the fuel pump.

The ignition timing is not advancing at higher rpm.

That is the job of the ECM (Electronic control module).

Inspect / replace the ECM.

'93 Aerostar-stalls while driving/scary-stalls in 'drive' at stops

Wow!!! Now that's a headfull of problems....
This could be a great many things...
Check these before you sell. I have a '93 Aerostar and can't live without it.
1. Check idle speed
2. Fuel filter may be clogged or water in the fuel system.
3. Choke improperly adjusted or sticking.
4. Distributor components damp or damaged.
5. Faulty emissions components.
6. Faulty or incorrectly gapped spark plugs/ Also check wires.
7. Vacuum leak at the carburetor/fuel injection unit or vacuum hoses.
8. On 1986 models, stalling during idle or deceleration may be caused by sludge in the throttlebody. (2.3 litre engine)
9. On 1986 & 1987 models with a 2.3 litre engine, hesitation or stalling during acceleration may be caused by carbon build-up on the intake valves.....I hope this helps!! Adios
