2006 Suzuki swift. Front shock absorbers, One replaced at 20k, now 2 need replacing at 50k. Why 3 at 50k.

front struts is like normal shock absorber. push front car downward let it bounce it should be 1 or 2 bounces if not replace it . before visual inspection to see if oil coming out of strut.

Tools: Two 17mm spanners - ring and open. Long spanners may help.

As the chart below shows, it's quite normal for a shock absorber to have traces of oil around the top. However leaks like level 3 to 1 mean the shock absorber (SA) needs replacing.



Probably a good idea to replace in pairs.

As always, apply hand-brake, chock the opposite front wheel and without the vehicle raised, slightly slacken off the road wheel nuts.

Please raise the car 3ft,remove front tire,remove the front steering lingkages.remove the 2 nut on the bolt of the shock absorber.remove the strut bolt of the wheel.get a special tools or coil spring compresser to compres the coil spring then remove the upper bolt of the shock absorber,replace the shock,replace the clock spring of the steering wheel.

The struts model (MacPherson Strut),are both in front and back of this car.

Of course this is only the cartridge, you have to transfer the spring, and the top mount of the existing strut. You need a pair of coil spring compressor to do the job. The basic procedure to replace a strut is:
Remove the top nuts that secure the strut assembly to the frame mount inside the engine compartment. Do not remove the center nut.
Mark the lower strut mounting location on the hub for installation reference. The alignment will be close if the new strut is installed in the same position.
Remove the bolts that hold the strut assembly to the hub.
Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
Mark the top mount for installation reference. Using a side mounted spring compressor, compress the spring and remove the top nut and retaining washer. Pull strut assembly out from the bottom of spring.
Slide the new strut assembly up into the spring and reposition the top mount onto the spring in the same position that it was removed. Install the retaining washer and top nut.
Tighten the top nut to the manufacturer's specifications and carefully remove the spring compressor.
Place the strut assembly back into the vehicle.

Service Ride Control means one or some of your shocks or struts are worn and may need replacing. The price for new ones is not cheap,

1991 Swift - 203,000km. It runs excellently and gets 480km to the tank on standard, 550km on Premium (95 RON). Original clutch too, but has just had 2 new front shocks.

Could be one of the wheel bearings. Swifts are known for having quite brittle bearings. Could also be shock absorbers

Check the rear Sway Bar Links, if they are sloppy, rusted or damaged, replace them first.
Check rear Sway Bar Bushings, if bad, replace and retest.
Possible bad Shock Absorber or bushing?
