Fanbelt pulleys I have a 1992 ford escort 1.8 lxi 16valve.I'm trying to find somthing about the fanbelt pulley system..Was driving home from work 1 night,all of a udden there was a clunk and bang under th car.... Then no power steering, battey light came on and started overheating....following day i looked in the engine to find the fanbelt off. It is too big to put back on. What could be missing???? Anyone got a diagram of all the pulleys with the fanbelt please.. am in dire straights

It does seem to make a difference if the engine is
DOHC or a SOHC... cam configured 2.0 Liter...

tensioner arm... is what the idler pully is at the end of...

Place around all the pulleys (Should have a picture of the route of the belt somewhere close kind of near the hood latch.) Loosen Tensioner pulley, slip belt over pulley and let the tensioner pulley do its job!

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Belt -2.0L SPI Removal

1. Relieve the drive belt (8620) tension.
   • Use a (A) ratchet or breaker bar inserted in the square hole in the drive belt tensioner flange.
   • Rotate the (B) drive belt tensioner (6B209) in a clockwise motion to release belt tension.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 .

1. Remove the engine splash shield.

1. Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive belt routing pulley (6C348) and then the remaining accessory pulleys.

Installation

1. Position the drive belt over the accessory pulleys. Raise and support the vehicle if necessary; refer to Section 100-02 .

1. Install the engine splash shield.

1. Rotate the drive belt tensioner in a clockwise motion.

NOTE: When a new drive belt is installed or a drive belt is re-installed after a service procedure, the drive belt does not fully seat into the pulley grooves until engine has run for several minutes.
This vehicle is equipped with:

• a V-ribbed serpentine accessory drive belt.
• an automatic drive belt tensioner.

New drive belts must be of the same type as originally installed.
Check the drive belt condition at 96,000 km (60,000 miles) then after every 24,140 km (15,000 miles).

The pulley may have a 1/2" square hole for a ratchet. If not using a socket on the pulley bolt will help you accomplish your goal.

you will need power steering pully puller you can rent them at most of your local part house or you can buy them there you will need to pull of belts then the pully hope this helps

First put the car up on jackstands, remove the front left wheel. disconnect battery, take the drive belt off, remove the drive belt tensioner, put a floor jack under the engine with a block of wood or somthing to support it, remove the motor mount by taking the 3 bolts off of the body and the bolt out of the center of the mount. Remove the crankshaft pulley, this may require a pry bar. Take the bolts out of the front cover and remove it. Take the timing belt tensioner loose by loosening the 10mm bolt and rotating the tensioner with a hex key. remove the timing belt. I would also replace the tensioner while I was in there. Line the cam and crank up with the index marks, the cam has a pointer on the sprocket that lines up with a dimple behind the pulley. The crank has a keyway that lines up with a mark on the block. Install the timing belt and tension it making sure the marks do not move, then rotate the engine by hand 2 revolutions and make sure the marks line up again. After that reinstall everything in the order you removed it and fire it up. -Jared

Hi there!

As a general rule, fit it over grooved pulleys, then bring it over the tensioner pulley to run on the flat side. It will only go on in one position.

I'll search for a diagram for you if you give the engine details.
