1994 Dodge Caravan. I had just started driving and heard a loud pop. I pulled into a driveway. When I tried to back out, the van would not move in reverse. After pushing the van out of the driveway and turning it off, I put it in drive and it moved a short distance, then dive would not work, the engine just rev'ed. The transmission moves to "park" and does not roll. It rolls in neutral.

Thank you for responding. Could it be something outside the transmission (u-joint, cv joint, etc)?

Sorry but it sounds like your transmition is bad.

  • Anonymous Jun 08, 2011

Yes it could be a half shaft but the issue is you said it would go forwards not backwards. Reach under the car and see if you can twist the shafts by hand. Through my experience with this vehicle, it shows me the sign that the transmition just went on you. Let me know

2000 Dodge Caravan won't start. My van has been running great, pulled in driveway shut it off. Next time I got in, Power comes on, starter spins, but the motor will not fire up?

Question moved to make model category.

It could be so many things. The first thing to do it check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). A professional grade scan tool computer can diagnose all the electronics. This is a far more inexpensive route than guessing and only takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

Hi tinkerbel925

Have you tried scanning it with a scan tool? If this much is going wrong there should be a check engine light on. This will tell you what is making your van do all that crazy stuff.

My 1994 caravan drives about 200 feet then starts slipping. If I turn the ignition off and back on it will go another 200 feet.friends told me it is some sort of sensor .does any know whats going on .thanks

Please define the word "slipping" for me. To me it means the transmission is "slipping", the van is going down the road, and then the engine RPM's are still there, but the van keeps slowing down ? You try to put on more acceleration, but the engine revs up higher, but you go nowhere ?
Please let me know.

My 2000 dodge caravan 3 L - the rear wheels are stuck

Try to shoot some WD-40 into the sheath that the cables slide in. Shoot it where the sheath ends at the back of the hub. Then work the cables by applying and releasing the brake. If they don't release, try pulling and working the sheath at the hub while adding more WD-40.
