When I try to start the car it makes a click sound and will not start. It only makes the click sound one time. I have changed the battery and replaced the starter and it still wont turn or even make a clicking noise only one distinct click. What could be the cause? Please help!!!!!!!

Did you also change the starter solenoid when you changed the starter? That is a possible cause.

Can you turn the engine over by hand from the crankshaft pulley to make sure the engine is not frozen or blocked? You will need a large socket to do that, but if you can't turn the engine over by hand, the starter won't be able to turn the flywheel either. The one click is probably the solenoid firing the starter piston to the flywheel but then nothing makes me think the engine is frozen in some way.

But if the starter and solenoid and battery is trying to turn a frozen flywheel, you should notice some drawdown of light intensity. Do you notice any change?

Yes the new starter came with a new solenoid as well. We did try to turn the engine over by hand to no avail.. This was my Dads assesment as well that some how the the Engine or Flywheel is locked . What would have caused it to lock? The car has never overheated and is good on oil. Its weird it started and I went to the store and came out of store and nothing...wont turn over at all... Thanx for all the advice thus far!

Unfortunately, now the troubleshooting gets dicey. First, you need to find out if your transmission will disengage from the engine flywheel. If you put it in neutral can you roll it back and forth - at least a foot? If you can then it isn't the transmission. If you can't, then for some reason your transmission is not releasing from the flywheel.
Think back over the last couple weeks to a month, have you heard any weird sounds, or operation problems?
You are welcome, just trying to help.

I am able to move the car in neutral and when I try to start the car I do not see any dimming of the lights. The only thing I know it was doing was making a squealing sound from the serpentine belt. We checked the belt and it was good. My assesment was maybe a bad pulley or maybe waterpump going bad. Could any of those cause the motor to lock? Or if the belt was too tight maybe?

Good news about the transmission. When you tried to turn the motor, was the serpentine belt in place? You might want to take that off, and then try to turn the engine by hand. It probably won't but we are ruling out the water pump, AC compressor, pulleys out by checking it. If any of them are completely locked up and the serpentine belt is good, then it could have locked the engine and kept you from turning it by hand. But not likely! You might also want to jack up the car and take a look at the metal shield that attaches to the bell housing to make sure that it wasn't damaged in some way.

I am going to try out all the things you outlined and I will report back! Thanks again!

It could be a bag ground connection...check the ground cable on the engine block, make sure the battery ends are tight...

possibly your alternator. if you have a multimeter set it to volts dc and, without the car running, set the probes on the battery. then start the car and repeat the process. the multimeter reading should jump if the alternators good. you will need to charge the battery beforehand it sounds like, do not jump it. if all else fails disconnect a jumper lead befor starting to ensure nothing electrical gets damaged.

Do you have a remote door lock? Try clicking your doors open and closed. You can turn the key to the start position three times and re-set the security that way on some Acura/Hondas. My son has had to turn the key to the start position and change the position of the Automatic gear shifter - back and forth. I think it has something to do with the Neutral/Park safety switch on his '93 Legend.
Make sure the ground wire is good. The security and starting circuits depend on a ground wire going to the engine from the battery/transmission area. It may be loose or not getting good contact.
Honda/Acura has kept the old fashion battery post type batteries. Always wire brush the inside of the cable connections and the battery posts.

Wont jump start after dead battery, clicking sound

Give the battery 15 min to recharge before you try to start the engine. The battery is to far gone and drawing to much from the others car charging system, so give it time and then try again. Your going to most likely going to need to repalce the battery, once you turn your car off. A battery that far gone will not hold a charge and will burn out your alternator, causing you more work and money to replace the alternator along with the battery.

Good luck and thank you for using Fixya.

1997 Toyota Camry won't start

The clicking is the starter solenoid, and the battery change doesn't change or hurt the situation, it's just coincidence. Either the solenoid or the starter itself is bad; you need the starter system tested in order to identify the problem. Get a firm estimate from any decent shop.If you need another starter, a rebuilt is just fine.
