Were to start troubleshooting on a 2001 Mercedes Benz ML 430 cranks but will not start

Check spark, then fuel pressure, injector pulse, If you can use a scan tool that would save time and money, then compression.

First try to squirt some starter fluid in air intake, then try and start , if fires and runs for a split second then dies, most likely possible fuel pump bad. Thanks mike. Please let me know on results of starter fluid, then we go from there.
