How do I remove the back seat on my 1992 525i ? It is a solid bench seat not the two piece seat shown in the manual. I need to get to the battery.

Hi,

There are latches at the right and the left sides of the front of the rear seat, kneel down and look at the bottom of the rear seat and you will see the attachment, there is a latch that you have you move to lift the seat out of the clasp once one the left and then on the right,front of the seat lifts up and then pull forward to remove.

The front edge of the rear seat bottom will pop up when lifted. Pop up one side first, then the other side. Now you can just slide the seat bottom forward, and remove from the vehicle.

You can leave them out. They are structural to hold the seat in, in case of an accident.

How to remove rear seat in 1996 dodge ram 1500
REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Clamp the seat belts to keep them from retracting.
  2. Locate and disconnect seat wiring at the connector(s).
  3. Move front seats forward or back for access to the hold down hardware.
  4. Put the rear seats in the stowed position.
  5. On Durango 3rd row seats, lift the cushion upward and forward to floor cargo position.
  6. Remove the hardware securing the seat.
  7. On split bench models, lift the center seat upward to clear attachment stud
  8. Remove the seat from the vehicle.
NOTE Do NOT activate the track adjusters once the fastening hardware is removed.
  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Middel seatbelt will not loosen
I think you have to remove headrst bfore folding seat back down. You may have to unbolt seat from floor. 4 bolts.
Rear Seat Backrest —Split Bench Removal
NOTE: The 40% rear seat backrest must be removed before the 60% rear seat backrest.
40% rear seat backrest
  1. Remove the 40% rear seat backrest.
    1. Remove the nuts and bolts.
    1. Remove the backrest.
60% rear seat backrest
  1. Remove the 60% rear seat backrest.
    1. Remove the nut and bolt.
    1. Remove the backrest.
Installation
NOTE: The 60% rear seat backrest must be installed before the 40% rear seat backrest.
60% rear seat backrest
  1. NOTE: Do not tighten the nut and bolt at this time.
    Install the 60% rear seat backrest.
    1. Install the rear seat backrest.
    1. Install the nut and bolt.
40% rear seat backrest

REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION Seat, Rear Bench
Removal
  1. Remove the center seat(s) if equipped. Refer to the procedure in this section.
  1. Slide the bench seat forward to the center row seating position.
  1. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to remove the cover caps from the front of the rear seat cushion latch cover.




  1. Remove the two rear seat bolts from the front of the rear seat cushion latch cover.




  1. Lift the rear seat cushion floor cover on the back of the rear bench seat and remove the two inboard rear seat bolts and the two outboard rear seat bolts.




  1. Remove the bench seat from the vehicle through the body side door opening.

There is a single bolt about half way across the bench between the seat backs and the bench. You'll need a 12MM socket to remove this bolt. Once that is done, pull up on the bench about 12" in from each side, there are two pressure clips that will pop out of there moorings and the seat is out.
