95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A/C only blows heat. Dealer mechanic says something broken in dash and very costly to fix--not worth the money on old vehicle. If clamp heater/radiator hose, can get partial AC, but not enough in 90 degree heat. Any ideas for a temporary fix?

Put an small brass butterfly valve in the heater line, on both sides. That will turn it off for the summer, and you can turn it on for winter. Alternatively, you could try and do like I'm doing on my '59 Chevy, when I get it out of the flood plain, and route ice water through the heater core.

Low heat from vents

had the same problem with my 03 Jeep Overland --- the problem is the ' heat vent solinoids 'and when one goes the other is not far behind,, this is a big problem with Jeeps new heating system and to make matters worse - to replace them is a big pain and the dealer wants BIG money to do the replacement. My Jeep is down in Washington state and I am up in Alaska and my friend had to get this fixed without me being there and she found a Jeep mechanic that knew a few tricks to make this job easier and the whole thing cost only 150 dollars instead of the 1,200 that the dealer wanted ---- if you have a mechanic in your area that you know and trust and would like to have do the work -- I can get you the phone number of the mechanic in Washington and they can talk and share this ' trick of the trade ' ( or if you are mechanically inclined and want to take this fix on yourself - I am sure he can walk you thru the steps ) + give the info to where he bought the parts at such a reasonable price.
just let me know -- you can e-mail me directly at ' [email protected] ',, the earliest time that I can get that number is around 6pm PST 1/21/11.
again -- the part that is broken is called the ' heat vent solinoid ' - so if you want to call around to some local Jeep mechanics to see what they charge for their replacement AND just for fun,, call the dealer and ask them - ( they are crazy !!! ).
have a great night,

I have a Jeep 2006 Grand Cherokee. The Perform

There is no way for you or me to tell. In order to determine what service it needs you should go to the dealer and they will perform a diagnostics test. I think it is around $95. It could be something simple as a fuse or reset needed. It could possibly be under warranty and not cost you anything but the $95.
I hope this helps

Thats your blend air door. . .I had the same thing with my 02 Grand Cherokee and I think ALOT of other people have as well. I took it to the dealer and ended up costing right around $800, because they have to pull the dash apart to get to the blend air door.

The blower doesn't work for heat/defrost

If you have Automatic Temperture Control then you will need a blower resistor module which could be around $100 to $200. If you have a manual temperture control then it can be just a simple $20 blower resistor.

Jeep Blowing Cold Air

This has happened to me on my 1998 Grand Cherokee for the past couple of years. It is intermittent, same problem with the a/c blowing only hot air. My mechanic said it would require taking the whole dash apart which would cost a couple hundred bucks. He said it was a baffle that was getting stuck. So now, when it happens I hit under the dash to the right of the console with the palm of my hand. It will loosen the baffle into place and then it works fine. Not only that, getting out my frustration gives me some satisfaction. :-)
