Yes, you have PATS II. There is a tranceiver on the ignition barrel and a transponder in every factory key. If the transceiver cannot read your key, the red security light will blink rapidly. If this happens, make sure you are using a factory key and there are no other factory keys near the switch. If it continues to blink rapidly, you might try removing the PATS ring from the key barrel and placing a factory key in the center of the ring. I have done this successfully in the past. If it works, tape up the key inside the ring and place it in the open space in the steering column shroud. Then remove the transponder from any other factory keys. You can then have keys made at a hardware store, as your one transponder inside the column will constantly respond to the PATS system.

Car would not turn off with key so they changed ignition ( 1997 Buick Lasabre ), now car wont start. everything else will come on but car wont start.

Changing the ignition was the cause of the NO START. These cars came with a SECURITY system already built in. The key sends a signal to the ignition which reads and sends another signal to the TDM (Theft Deterrent Module) computer which then sends a signal to the starter allowing it to start. I know it seems like alot, but thats just how GM did it. Changing the ignition may have interupted this communication and the car will not start until the communication is fixed. Here is a link with info on the system and ways to fix this yourself.

you need to replace the sparkplug rubber gasket you will see it when you remove the valve covers w/c were the sparkplugs go through you will need 4 rubber gaskets only dealer will have it and make sure you tighten the valve covers properly after changing or else it will leak again

Wont start 1996 jeep grand cherokee laredo inline six4.0 fuel inj

The first thing I would do since you think it was flooded is to replace the sparkplugs, sometimes if a spark plug has been washed out with gas you cannot get it completely dried out. After you replace sparkplugs try to start the engine. If the engine starts I would still recommend that you change your oil because of fuel saturation. If your engine fails to start I would suspect that you have a bad crankshaft position sensor as it is known to give problems. The crankshaft position sensor is located on the top of the transmission bell housing on the drivers side.

Added 3 quarts of oil now white smoke is coming from exhaust

you have to drain the excess oil i would suggest a complete oil change and oil filter. TAke off spark plugs put some wd 40 on each sparkplug hole start the car without any sparkplugs on ir. Reolace sparkplugs with new ones and the car should run again. I would also suggest to check for faulty sparkplug wires and bad air filter. While you are at it go ahead and check fuel filters.

My car won't start - no previous problems with starter

Sir,

ou should put some marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and turn the engine over by hand.. Of course you have to remove all the plugs first and leave them out until you get the engine ready. let sit for an hour and repeat the process. Make sure the water and oil are changed. after you have repeated the oil in the cylinders three times. You are ready to try and start the engine. check all wiring and battery for proper function. turn the engine over with the starter. Replace the spark plugs (recommend new ones) and then try to start the engine.

The best way to start any engine that has been sitting for any time longer than a year is to flush the old gas out. Gas that has been sitting for too long will go bad unless a gas preservative was added to it. Then change the oil and the oil filter. The coolant in the engine block, and the radiator should be flush out, and only clean water she be added without the thermostat. A lot of sediment from the iron in the block and from the radiator will build up and the coolant. This a also a good time to examine all rubber parts for cracks or leaks. It's would also a good time to change the spark plugs and wires. Examine the carburetor make sure its that it free of debris spider webs or any thing else. It would ofnot hurt to change the fuel filter pre-carburetor. All this with a fresh battery, and lots of luck you're good to go.

Thanks
