I have a 2000 chevy silverado and when in Drive going up a hill it seems like the transmission can't down shift or doesn't know what to do, I step on the gas and the rpm's don't go up and there is a fluttering sound and i loose speed. I manually put the shifter in 3 and it works fine. Its to the point where i have to manually shift through the gears, Is it the solenoid for overdrive ?

Car doesn't kick down gear going up hills

A/T
The modern A/T has 4shift methods.
Foot (passing) called detent TV kick down cable.
the shift lever.
the Vacuum modulator (load, = hills)
and tail shaft RPM (speed)
so seems like the MOD on the A/T is bad.

Hi I'm an owner of a 1998 Honda Oddysey. I would like know the mechanics of using its automatic gear transmissions and specific function. For example when do I use D3 or D2 etc... And how do I shift...

Hi,
Gear usage.
The Drive is for normal driving.
D2 is for hill/steep climbing drive.
D3 is for hill/steep going down drive.
If you have overdrive button, use it when you exceed 60mph.
That's all you have to do when you see roads that is going up nor down.

Thaks for asking FixYa!

Transmission shifts hard into second gear(auto trans). However, when shutting engine off and restarting, the hard shift will go away. It will come back in a few days. Doesn't seem to matter how many...

it may be a bad tps ( throttle position sensor ). it causes transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cut off, surge while crusing down highway. if this does not solve problem, it may be a sticking valve body in transmission. have a good day !! for an automatic tranny.
