SOURCE: The gear shift lever on

check the brake light circuit (do the brake lights work), this is what provides power to unlock the shifter, it is called the brake park interlock and is one of the new DOT safety devices..

SOURCE: chevy avalanche transmission problems

Hello;
Are you getting the check engine light? If so the electronics may have gone out. You may not need a rebuild but you won't know till you pull the oil pan on the transmission and inspect the contents. You may also have lost the neutral safety switch. It is mounted on the drivers side of the transmission. Check those out first and let me know what codes you get.
For Ponchoboy; the clunking and hissing you hear are teminal root causes. Drop the oil pan and if it has a lot of filings and metal it is time for a rebuild.
Hope this helps; Rate me highly;

SOURCE: 2006 Chevy Trailblazer - winding noise

I went to the dealer to check on the price for the idle pulley and they said that was waht the problem was. The quote from them was $99 for Labor and $38 for the pulley..Solution $18.00 at the parts store and 20 min from my hubby and it is fixed. The only problem with the pulley form the auto parts is that the original washer won't fit in the hole so we had to but a seperate washer. Runs great now I just have to find a solution to the gas gauge and fuel sensor.

SOURCE: My 2001 Ford Expedition wont go forward....

Do you have a check engine light? When it wouldn't start, was it cranking over? Sounds like it could be a transmission range switch.

SOURCE: 2005 chevy silverado 1500, service 4 wheel drive, gears

Sounds like a bent fork in the transfer case. It is a common problem with your truck. The transfer case is a np236. If it just recently started doing this, the rebuild will cost around $800. If the 4wd has been acting up for a while, the planetary will probably need changed, which is another $200.

The service 4wd light came on in my 2002 envoy.

There are two motors under the vehicle. The front axle actuator moves ONLY during 2HI->A4WD and A4WD->2HI transitions. The transfer case encoder motor makes a lower pitched noise in every mode transition: 2HI->A4WD, A4WD->4HI, and 4HI->4LO, and the three transitions upwards.

If EITHER of the motors fails to do what the TCCM commands it to do, the switch light will flash and the Service 4WD light on the dash will come on.

If you're a DIY mechanic, you might look into them further, or just take it to a mechanic who knows our systems. The average mechanic is not going to know the theory of operation of the trailblazer/envoy 4x4 system, which is pretty unique in the industry

What's the difference between A4WD and 4WD Hi in the snow? Which should I use in the snow?

A4wd means it senses wheel slipping automatically and engages 4 wheel drive as needed, use that.

The body shop should be able to program the Key F.O.B back to your vehicle. If the battery was disconnected the reciver to the F.O.B lost the frequency.
If the shop can not fix it the dealer can.
