The firing order should be cast into the intake manifold. You will have to remove the spark plugs and from cylinder number one and fine top dead center then see which spark tower the rotor is pointing at and go from there. If I remember correctly the firing order should be 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Cylinder number one is the driver's side front.
You could have 3 different engines in that rig. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 for most Dodge 8 cyl engines. And the odd cylinders are on the driver side. The small block engines ( 318 ) have the distributor in the back, and the big block engines ( 360 440 ) are in the front. The rotor on the big blocks turn counterclockwise. The dist cap is usaully stamped with cyl 1 as a starting point.
Turn the crankshaft till the timing mark is at 0...Check where the
rotor points...if towards the back of the engine, turn one more time
till it points to front. It is now at #1 on cap. Plugs are 1357 on left
bank, 2468 on right. order is 18436572 in that order around cap in the
direction the rotor turns when cranking.
