I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu 3.5 Engine Automatic Transmission, has a intermitten shifting problem staying in first gear too long and when it shift in second gear it jerks. Has less than 60,000 miles. Transmission has been serviced at 30,000 miles with new fluid and new filter. Please help me on this matter on the shifting problem.

Probably plugged passage's , not the EGR valve .
What type code reader are you using to read these codes ? I have factory service info. Doesn't show P0842 or P0642 , no such codes . You don't show what engine yours has , I'am assuming you have 3.5 L !

Sometimes with code readers they get confused an just throw any old codes . Have it checked by someone with GM Tech 2 scan tool .

Give a service to the transmission.

check tps (throttle position sensor) because it has an effect on transmission shift issues.

Check transmission fluid. If that is full, try changing the fuel filter. It could be starving for gas, and trying to shift but can't. It could also be the speed sensor, or shift solenoid.

Dealing with same issue, also when in main automatic mode, intermittenly seems to "get lost" while coasting and then reaccelerating. What I've found out so far it seems the data cable to the transmission is the problem, thin wires, tight fit and break in wire causes effect. Working on sourcing a new cable. Dealer thought transmission module (500.00 usd). Going cable route first due to cost and common sense.

my 99 Malibu is doing the same thing... it turned out to be a transmission pressure regulator. $400 it was fixed.
