3 to 1 ratio on oil pump/balance shaft. Pointer will have a natural fall to where its suppose to be if done right. If not excessive vibration around 2500rpm.

SOURCE: Timming belt broke on my 01 Hyundai Sonata while driving

Yea you should always be aware that engine damage can and will most likely occur. If you stop and turned off the engine immediately I wouldn't worry about it. Just install a new belt and tensioner make sure its on the correct timing before operating your vehicle.

SOURCE: '03 Hyundai Sonata keeps stalling

Hi
When your check engine light comes on you have a stored code that will tell the testing technician what the problem you may have.

I would think that with out using the diagnostic tool is you have a problem with your IAC idle control valve ,
This can be repaired just by cleaning out your throttle body and IAC .

My Hyundai sonata has crushed the timing belt. where can I get the replacement and what other damage can be caused to a car as a result of ths

it is an interference engine so you can expect 1/2 of the valves to be bent
timing belts can be obtained from the service dealer spares or quality auto parts shops
replace all of the shaft seals, idler pulleys and hydraulic adjuster to get maximum mileage out of the new belt
get quotes for the job but expect them to be a ball park figure of $1200.00
use only accredited professional service centers

WHERE IS THE SERPENTINE BELT LOCATED ON A 2003 HYUNDAI SONATA

Vehicles Covered: Hyundai Sonata 2002-2004 (2.4L & 2.7L Engines)

In 2003, Hyundai produced two types of Sonata:
Available engines:
4 Cylinders 2.4L VIN "S", MFI DOHC - see Figures 1 and 3.
6 Cylinders 2.7L VIN "H", MFI DOHC - see Figures 2 and 3.

To differentiate between these types of 2003 Hyundai Sonatas, the VIN 8th digit (Engine Type) will either be "S" or "H" as in the table above.

To locate the Engine drive belt, jack up the vehicle & place it onto jack stands, then slide under the car (toss a cardboard mat down first), then, once under the car, remove the (plastic) engine splash shield. Once removed, the drive & accessory belts are easily observed.

Fig. 1 Accessory Drive Belt Routing 2.4L (4 cyl) Engine - Hyundai Sonata
The "COMPRESSOR" refers to the A/C compressor, and "GENERATOR" refers to the Alternator.

Fig. 2 Accessory Drive Belt Routing 2.7L (6 cyl) Engine - Hyundai Sonata
The Belt Routing on the Left is "With A/C", on the Right is "without A/C"

Inspection - Drivebelt and Accessory Belts

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. Worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced.

Drivebelt Removal & Installation - 2003 Sonata (2.4L and 2.7L engines)

Raise and support the vehicle.
Remove the engine splash shield.
Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise to release the drive belt tension.
Remove the drive belt from the alternator.
Slowly release the drive belt tensioner.
Remove the drive belt from the accessory drive pulleys.

To install:

Install the drive belt to the accessory drive pulley.
Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise.
Install the drive belt to the alternator.
Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves of the accessory drive pulleys.
Slowly release the drive belt tensioner
Install the engine splash shield.
Lower the vehicle.

Here's the best illustration I can find of the Hyundai 2.4L and 2.7L engines - the drivebelt seems to be located on the passenger side of both of these transversely mounted engines.

Timing belt replacement interval

My rule of thumb for Timing belts:
replace at 60,000 miles, and every 40,000 miles thereafter. Having said that, I often let
cars go until the timing belt starts showing signs of wear (usually every 50K - 75K miles)

But www.autozone.com (register free at www.autozone.com) is recommending for your
car driving in "severe driving conditions" (aka normal stop-start driving) that your 2000 Sonata
have:
60,000 miles - replace
90,000 miles - inspect for wear
120,000 miles - replace
150,000 miles - inspect for wear

The 155 page owners manual (I found one at the link below - you may prefer to try Hyundai)
makes no mention of the timing belt at all.

My 2005 Hyundai Sonata (V6-2.7L engine) has 52,000 miles on it. I took it to the shop and had it inspected. The tech said that I should replace the timing belt soon. This sounds suspicious as I thought...

Not on this year and make, Hyundai Sonata with a 2.7L engine, Hyundai recommends replacing timing belt every 60,000 miles or 48 months, whichever occurs first, this is an interference engine, which piston to valve damage will occur due to timing belt failure.

Replacing timing belt

According to THIS ebay listing there are (kinda) 2: 1 is the T-belt; the other is a Balance Shaft Belt. Ask the shop what the belts are for (don't offer the info) and see what they say.

good luck,
