P1684 The battery has been disconnected within the last 50 starts.

P0340


This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.
Symptoms Symptoms can include:

  • Hard starting or no start
  • Rough running / misfiring
  • Loss of engine power
Causes A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
Possible Solutions With a P0340 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
  • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
  • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
  • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
  • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
  • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
  • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
  • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

    So, I'm at the gas station, loaded up to head out of town.
    It's 6:00 pm on Memorial day. I guess this means no trip, eh?

    It drove fine earlier today. What likely causes it to happen now,
    after having been driven just 2 hours ago?

    The camshaft position sensor problem is the one you need to be concerned about. This could cause the car to stop running for a short time until the temperature of the car cools. This could take from 1hr - 2 hrs. to cool. I would think that if you have a mechanic available and an auto parts store open at this time, it should not take that long to fix and you could get on with your trip. Otherwise, I would not advise chancing stalling in the middle of nowhere and not having access to services, especially if you are traveling with children. Sorry if this turns out to be bad news.

    2002 LXi.
    I only drove it 1.1 miles. I had low coolant & low transmission fluid recently, since repaired (presumably) & refilled. Is it likely those being low caused this?

    It is possible, but not probable. The fact the car could have gotten hot may have contributed to tripping the sensor, but you should be able to test this relatively easily. Drive it around the block for about 15 mins and see if it stalls and will not restart easily. DO NOT TRY TO KEEP CRANKING IT OR YOU WILL KILL THE BATTERY. If it stalls or seems to run sluggish, especially at stop lights, the problem is still there and is more than likely one of the crankshaft or camshaft sensors.

The camshaft sensor is very common on chrysler. the magnet becomes weak and since it is a hall effect type device that relies on a magnetic field,the output drops.
sometimes the sensor works fine for days.
replace it.

Hello..i repalce the computer in my 1997 sebring convertable because it had problems it would not start..engine wont turn over..and even after i replace the distributor cap,spark plugs & wires and...

Hi there,

You will need to extract the fault codes from your vehicle's computer, as follows:

1) Turn ignition key: ON, OFF, ON OFF, ON (leave in ON position)
2) The Check Engine light (CEL) should start flashing
3) Read codes as follows:

- First group of flashes indicate 1st digit of code (followed by short pause)
- Second group of flashes indicate the 2nd digit of code (followed by short pause)
Note: a long pause separates each fault code, then codes will repeat again

e.g. Flash, Flash (short pause), Flash (long pause)...... indicates Code: 21

4) Code 55 indicates end of CEL code output

Hi, a P1684 is "Battery Disconnected Within Last 50 Starts". I wouldn't worry about that too much.

The P0340 is "Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction". I'd definitely look into that code. I found a great article specific to the p0340 code - http://www.obd-codes.com/p0340 - it should give you an idea on what to look for, test, replace, etc. Good luck!

Code p1684 2002 chrysler

Check,tighten & clean all battery connections & Have your battery tested.Load tested. Usually a weak, or defective battery will cause this code to come up also. While they're at it, have them test charging system. My guess is autozone will check it free or cheap, if you buy the new battery there if required. Have you noticed it turning over maybe a little slower when starting occassionally?

2001 chrysler sebring will not go above 25 code p0700 p1684

something has triggered the fail safe ,could be anything from a tail light bulb out to low brake fluid level,but i could be wrong of course and no doubt i am.europeon cars use encrypted software thats designed to be dealer only, american cars ??dont know about this but iam assuming their standard as lots of boy racer ,sunday car mechanics type tools for fault reading??here on a europeon car they tell you your not connected ??connection pins in different places and encrypted software.. makes any fault a dealer only job and lots of money,just to connect computer is around 80€ before you evan pay labour .

CODES,P0442,P0455,P0456,P1684

P0442, P0455 AND P0456 are all evaporative leak monitor test failures (small, medium and large leaks). These codes appear anytime the integrity of the air space above the fuel or the lines to/from the vapor canister or purge valve. If there is no damage to the canister, check the lines that run under the van from the fuel tank and canister to the purge valve (under the hood). Also, check to make sure that the hoses are not split or disconnected where they connect to the purge valve. The P1684 is abit more confusing. This is not a valid DTC for your vehicle. It's possible the scanner the shop you went to is an OTC scanner that is reporting a false code. It's also possible they wrote it down incorrectly. The closest thing that makes any sense is a P1486 which would indicate a pinched hose in the same monitor system as the other 3 codes. Best of luck!

Engine code P1684

P1684 is not a factory diagnostic code, rather a code to identify last disconnect. Factory computers can identify start counts but OTC scanners cannot. The code prevents someone from disconnecting the battery (which clears many codes) and then reconnecting and having it tested. There is no way I can think of to selectively write more starts than the computer sees into the PCM so as to correct this. I can only think that after about 50 trips, it should be good. BTW, this code would have nothing to do with the emissions on the vehicle. I would suggest driving a few weeks so the computer will (hopefully) recognize the failure again and set more faults. The codes generated by these faults will assist in correcting what is actually wrong with the vehicle.
