Don't think so... I had one 2004 prix that lost it's coolant and it ran until it destroyed itself... Had another that would hit red on temp during the summer in the desert mountains. Never shut down on me though.... replaced the radiator, water pump and thermostat. My fans kick on about 3/4 of the temp gauge. Normal temp is between 1/2 & 3/4.
I would check the coolant temp. sensor it should be in the head and have one wire on it. The manufacturers program the computers to change the air fuel mixture, and idle higher when the engine is cold. If the engine is at normal temp and the computer thinks its not it could be idling it up to bring it to proper operating temp.
CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.IF COOLING FAN TURNING ON COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR WORKING.BECAUSE IT CONTROLS AND TURN ON COOLANT FAN AT A SET TEMPERATURE.SOUND LIKE ENGINE RUNNING TOO HOT. HAVE RADIATOR FLUSHED.REPLACE THERMOSTAT. HAVE ENGINE BLOCK FLUSHED.REPLACE RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP ALSO.SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
Yes that is what the code means. GM usually uses two, one that makes the gauge work and one that tells the ECM what the engine temp. is. You need the one for the computer.
its either of the 3 ur water pump is weak and couldnt supply the right amount of coolant to ur engine / ur radiator is clogged or your thermostatic valve is stuck up that restrict full flow of fluid to the radiator thats why when u use the heater that uses ur coolant hot water as a heating unit the temp. goes down...
You may have a relay, and thermostat and or computer issue. You need to get it diagnosed properly. Also make sure the wire did not fall of the Temp sensor.
