If you are talking about the seal at the rear of the tranny where the drive shaft goes into than it is fairly easy.
1.put something behind both tires so the vehicle does not try to roll away when you complete step 2.
2.take the drive shaft down.
3. take a flat head screw driver and a hammer.
4.take the screw driver and put it in the crack where the seal and tranny meet.
5.you will need to tap the screw driver into the crack until you can get a good grip on the seal with the screw driver.
6 you will need to pry out on the seal until you see it move.
7.do this all the way around until you can get the seal out.
8.make sure nothing is in the way of you putting in the new seal
9.put a little bit of tranny fluid on the new seal.
10 put the seal in place and lightly tap the seal. into the tranny.
11. put the drive shaft back together.

the oil in the filter is called blow by. this is caused because the oil is getting passed the rings. the way to fix it is to get new rings. if you let it go to long it will blow the engine.

Rear oil seal leaking. how to fix,I KNOW I WILL HAVE TO REMOVE STARTER & TRANSMISSION, REPLACING SEAL, IS IT EASY OR HARD?

If you have a minor leak you may be able to cure it with AT205, a seal swell made by the ATP company. I have seen this seal swell do miracles with many different fluid leaks - it is not cheap but if it can't fix it, only a wrench can!!! I suggest adding at least 2 pints to your motor and see if it stops it. Failing that, the job is relatively easy if you have a lift and the proper tools. If no lift, but a concrete floored garage, it is not so bad with a rolling floor jack. Alignment is always a problem so removing the bolts for the motor mounts and having 2 rolling jacks will help lots - although I do not envy you this job! Thanks for using Fixya!!

Leaky rear axle seal, the rear axle boot is leaking where it goes into the differential. how hard is it to replace it?

If you haven't done one before. I would get someone who has and watch how it is done, don't want to be strained in the driveway shaking your head. It would be a good idea to pick up some bearings and do both sides as well as both oil seals.

The rear transmission seal on my 97 wrangler leaks after replacing it once. any secret to doing it right this time?

if you did it yourself then you probably didnt put transmission fluid on the seal before you put it in the housing. take it apart( i know its a pain but its the only way to fix it) this time spread with your finger fluid on both sides of the seal. then use a sealant around the housing when you put the plate back on. this should solve the problem.

Severe oil leak form the rear of the engine of a 1996 Dodge Dakota V8

Your rear engine seal is probably shot. I wish I could tell you that it's an easy job to fix. You "could" try some of that engine stop leak stuff which is supposed to repair dried out seals, but I have never had luck with that stuff.

You'll probably need to get the seal replaced, which involves pulling the transmission off. Luckily its a rear wheel drive truck - it's no where near has hard as a front wheel drive!!
