I was driving on freeway about 75 mph when suddenly I felt a difference in gas peddle and heard my engine rev . I realized that I had no 5th gear at that point. I slowed down and shifted down to 4th, I was able to use 4th to get off freeway. I then realized after coming to a stop that I had no gears at all. I can shift into all gears without using clutch but it would not engage them. later found that I do still have 4th gear. I replaced clutch and still no gears.

Its defently internal,if you can put a clutch in then you will have no trouble fixing the gearbox.
when you take the box out have a look at top part of gearbox where the gear leaver fits to,undo plate and take out the gear leaver and first see if the serlecter forks are bent or broken,if theres your problem, but you will still need to strip the rest of the box to make shore there is no other damadge.or get reconditioned box, best of luck

You have an internal transmission damage since you mentioned you only have 4th gear left.

I have a 2001 Ford escape xls 4x4 2.0 4cylinder and when driving down interstate at 75 mph in 5th gear my rpms are running at 3500. Is this normal or what would be causing this? It sounds like it needs a...

That is a typical RPM at that speed for most 6-speed 4 cylinder engines. The reason for this is that they have a much lower power output at lower RPMs (due to lack of torque), and the engineers want for you to have SOME acceleration to get up little hills.

No speed when gas pedal is to floor tranny light came on

With the oil light coming on and the brake pedal being hard to press I would say that the engine stopped hence no vacuum -no power assist from the booster.- hard brake pedal. The lock uo feeling may come from the engine seizing up while you were still in gear

My 1994 BMW 525i e34 came up with the Trans Program warning. Accelerator would not rev the engine!

sounds as if the accelerater cable broke, when you were able to throttle under the hood did you happen to notice if the accelerater cable was moving freely.

Just purchased my 2nd used Hyundai accent gs- 57,000 miles. I have been researching the cars problem of: 75 mph; in 5th gear, the rpm's are over 4000; making the engine noise almost unbearable! So what...

any "adjustments" you carry out to reduce engine speed at any given road speed will affect the speedo/odometer reading,BUT,the simplest/cheapest way of reducing revs is to fit bigger wheels/ tyres.say fit 15" instead of 13"with the same profile tyres.this will reduce your revs by about 500 @75mph.but the speedo will read 70mph.also acceleration times will be considerably reduced.and put an extra strain on the clutch/engine.
alternatively, swop the whole drivetrain to diesel,75mph=3500.

When im driving in 5th gear the RPM's seem high around 3500 is this normal?

I, also, thought this was high at first. After some research, I found that this car runs in that range at about 75 mph. So, yes. That is normal.

Is it better to go into D3 wihile car is moving or stopped?

Well every gear has its limitations. I am not sure what the mph ranges for each gear are, but i've gotten to 60+ mph in 3rd gear. The only thing about driving on the freeway in 3rd gear is that it is alot less efficient mileage wise. Your turning more RPMS while on the freeway in 3rd gear so you burn up alot more gas.
Driving in D3 is driving in 3rd gear. It could burn up the tranny but it depends on the vehicle itself. It is not really made to do highways speeds in 3rd gear. It should be in 4th or 5th (OD)

Stick shift # Automatic RPM

That is normal,If you do the same speed in 4th gear the rpm's will almost double.

The rpm's will repond faster in a manual than an automatic.

In a manual the engine supplies the power required directly to the gear that you have selected thus the engine rpm's will increase or decrease as needed.

Mk2 golf 1989

Hi James,
The grinding noises suggest to me that your brake pads have worn away, giving you metal to metal contact between the pad backing plates and the brake disc.

Can you explain more what you mean by "just revs when driving in 5th gear at 50 mph" ?

If this suggestion solves the problem, please give my reply a rating to help others judge my solutions. If it does not, please give me more details so I can try to help you further. Cheers, D
