My 2001 ford escape suv doesn't go more than 40 miles p.h. when i mean to go faster

Which 'Black' wire? Is it connected to anything? There can be more than a mile of wire in a car so you'll need to supply a lot more information please.

If it has coolant in the radiator , then it has to be the thermostat or a clogged radiator. Probably thermostat.
