No it sounds like mybe one of the wiring plugs are not pluged in all the way or double check to make sure a wire is not slipped out alittle look real close...
it also may be the rod on the side of the column not pushing down far enough..there is an ajustment ...two small screws on switch (on column) to move switch up alittle...it also may be the rod on the side of the column not pushing down far enough..there is an ajustment ...two small screws on switch (on column) to move switch up alittle...

The problem id say is the key . Remove the antenna ring from the ignition and put your old key inside the ring and try to start it if it starts then you you have a choice , change the barrel to your old barrel so the old key works, try to code the new key to vehicle or to secure old key in ring and secure it somewhere .
starter? New battery drained = something is still powered, open/short. new ign switch and steering won't lock = something was not put together right and the ignition is staying on and draining the battery.
Hello, you will need a new ignition switch. Also take all the junk off the auto key ring. The reason why the ignition switch goes out is all the other key, flash lights, pepper spray, beer opener, and many other thing that hang on the auto key chain.
Replace the ignition switch is a job. Remove everything on the steering column, remove steering wheel, remove the turn signal switch, steering column adjustment mechanism, Now, all is left is the ignition switch housing which is problem a big cunk of aluminum. The aluminum 5/8" dowel pin has to be drilled out and ignition housing then the housing has to be loosen on the column for removal. Buy a new ignition switch or new complete ignition housing with switch and keys. Re-install everything. But the first thing that should be done is: Disconect the battery cables. Whis you luck. You have a broken wire going to the ignition tumbler inside the steering column. To fix it correctly, the tumbler will need to be replaced. Probably something for the dealer, or a locksmith as the new tumbler will have to have the same resistance chip in the key as the original.
Read up on this link. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/ But replacing steering column, you have probably swapped out the ignition that is part of the cars anti theft system. The passlock has immobilized the starter. Read that link all the way thru. Way too much to type. Tons of info and DO IT YOURSELF solutions to fix the security too.
This is probably the ignition lock cylinder worn out or getting old. The TDM is most likely not locking the key in, but new cars are pretty tied into themselves. For now, just try leaving the key in. Use another one for the doors. Some cars have a small hole under the steering wheel/column that you can stick a pen or something in to release your key. Maybe just be ready for something else breaks, then you'll know what is wrong.
I know in the newer versions of the Bravada, Trailblazers, Envoys, the ignition switch itself is always the culprit. Not the switch the key goes in, but it's located under the steering wheel column. I know how to replace the newer ones but not yours. That's the first place I'd look.
