2006 Chevy Impala SS. Engine light came on while enroute to Jiffy Lube. They said it is coming up as cam shaft. Am taking to Radley Chev. How long does this take approximately & is this dangerous to engine? I have a CNA warranty. Thank you so much. (Will also need to check for the 4th time Service Pressure Tire Monitor System is always coming on, not so worried more annoyed.)

the book shows it as a single chain from the crank to the cam shaft at the base of the V of the block
the easiest way to remove the chain on these is to undo the cam bolts and slide the can sprocket and the crank sprocket together
if you put on the crank sprocket it is difficult to get the cam gear back on the end of the shaft
so pull together
line up the marks and install together

the cam shafts are bolted down to the cylinder heads of any engine <shrugs>

Not sure what engine you have but normaly its inside the dist houseing .
But I have to say its likely not your problem its a solid state thing sealed and dosn't come into contact with anything .It s what they the hall vane effict it electro magneticly senses a gap in the metal part spining under the rotor.
You would be seeing the MIL light come on and code po1345 would come up if you read it CKP/CMP .You see its a correlation between the crank shaft pisition and the cam shaft pisition that this is sensening.

You have codes so check engine light should be on, if not on does check engine light come on at all when key is first turned to where the dash lights come on? Also is this a V8?

have the car scanned for trouble codes. Many parts stores, such as autozone and advance will do free scan.

I have a 2006 Kia Spectra hatchback 4D. It was a show room car and I'm leasing it since March 2009. The engine light comes on and off intermentaly. I took it in the Kia dealership in Calgary AB many twice and first time they said it was a part they needed flown in. Same issue after the part was tested, now they say they need to look at the wiring so they need take the engine out. I had it hooked up at Jiffy Lube free of charge and they said it was O2 sensory issue, take it to a mechanic and get it fixed there. Jiffy people said that dealerships dont care about the maintenance aspect of cars. They recommended me to take it to mechanics. Shouldn't the KIA people have picked up on the O2 sensor since its a computer diagnostic reading ?

Usually ,& depending on engine, is located on the rear side of the engine block behindthe crankshaft balancer. Good luck!
