Right hand side of engine compartment under the, I can't remember what is under, it's in the middle of the inside right fender on the top, it's hidden a bit, follow the a/c line from the dryer,

Your cheapest option will be a salvage yard. New, it is $86 because it is part of the control stalk. remove it completely and see if you can fix the spring and latch mechanism in it.
The charging adapter will only connect to the right (they are different sizes) port, it is coded, that port is in the low side line from the AC compressor.
Common question here. There are two ports on the ac lines with black caps. One is larger than the other to help prevent you from connecting to the wrong side of the compressor.
The low pressure port is the only one that your AC charging tool will fit on if you are planning to charge the AC unit with refrigerant. The high side port is much larger and the quick connect tool won't fit it. Look up high toward the firewall on Fords and Lincolns.
On my 1998 Sienna (when facing the engine), the low port is located on the left side near the back, between fender and the engine. Is is marked with a back cap that has an 'L' on it.
Look for the ac compressor,and locate the large ac line coming off the ac compressor.Follow it until you come to the ac charge port.this is where you charge it up with a charge hose that you have.Put the can on the can tap,and the quick connect to the ac port on the ac.Turn the t handle on the can tap clockwise until all the way down.hold the can upside down.start engine and turn the ac on high blower.and recirculate.shake can lightly,until the can empties.Turn the t handle counter clock wise,almost all the way out,and remove the can .Repeat to add another can,Don`t put too much freon in,and add ac oil also.If it lost freon,it lost oil,failing to do this could cause the ac compressor to lock up.One 4 oz can will be fine.look for the large ac line to get cold,and the accumulator to get real cold,then stop with the freon.
2.4L engine AC low side charge port is located near the right shock tower. 3.4-3.1 engines AC low side charge port.remove right tire on driver side.remove splash shield.
Charge At he low side port, the low side is the large AC line, it may also me on the accumulator, that is a can like part near the firewall, the low side line goes to it from the AC compressor. Make sure you pull a vacuum on the system before you charge it, other wise it may not cool properly due to water vapor in the in the system.
