This is what I have for the Golf 2001:

' ITEM ' WIRE COLOR 'POL' WIRE LOCATION '

' STARTER 'red/gray '+ 'ignition harness '
' IGNITION 'black '+ 'ignition harness '
' ACCESSORY 'black/red '+ 'ignition harness '
' POWER LOCK 'yellow/blue '- 'drivers door module *1 '
' POWER UNLOCK 'green/red *2 '- 'drivers door module *1 '
' LOCK MOTOR 'purple/yellow ' 'drivers door module *1 '
' UNLOCK MOTOR 'blue/yellow ' 'drivers door module *1 '
' DISARM DEFEAT 'pur/yel or blu/yel ' 'passengers door module *3 '
' PARKING LIGHTS + 'gry/red & gry/blk ' 'drivers kick panel '
' HEADLIGHTS 'yellow/red '+ 'headlight switch '
' DOOR TRIGGER 'blue/gray *4 '- 'comfort module *5 '
' DOME SUPERVISION 'blue/gray '- 'comfort module *5 '
' TRUNK/HATCH PIN 'brn/blk or brn/blu '- 'hatch light '
' HOOD PIN 'brown/red '- 'comfort module *5 '

' SPEED SENSE ' ' ' '
' BRAKE WIRE 'red/black '+ 'drivers kick panel '
' HORN TRIGGER 'black/yellow '+ 'comfort module *5 '
' WIPERS 'grn/yel and green '+ 'wiper motor

*1 The drivers door module is located in the drivers door.
*2 A double pulse will unlock all doors and disarm the factory alarm.
*3 The passengers door module is located in the passengers door.
*4 This wire will read the dome light delay. The avoid the dome light delay, use the separate door trigger wires and diode isolate each one. They are brown/white and are all located in their own door at their own door module.
*5 The comfort module is the main control module located under the drivers side of the dash.

Use this diagram for the door trigger isolation: motorsport.com/images/install_notes/149.jpg

Use DIAGRAM A.

Hope this helps.

I need central locking fitted to my golf

Besides the cost of the part, they have a flat rate charge per hour. So to have an idea, ask how much time is allotted for this job that VW recognizes it should take to fix it then you multiply the time to the flat rate.

My central locking on my 1997 vw golf just stopped working it sounded like it was trying to work but now does nothing. also the gas tank cover wont open as its stuck on lock...any advice on what i can try?

the gas flap is operated with the central locking, stand at rear of car with tailgate open, just inside to the right, under the floormat you will find the central locking pump.but first renew the batteries in the remotes then unlock the car with the key and hold the key over for 30 secs, the windows may go down,
then lock the car with the key and hold over for 30 secs, the windows may go up and the sunroof,if fitted will close, then unlock with remote button held down for 30 secs, this will reset alarm/central locking.
if you need to get to gas flap, pull carpet away in boot behind flap area and pull wire to unlock....

Imobiliser problem

If im not mistaken, your car should have an alarm reset/override.Below the steering column,on the dash should be a slot where you put your remote transmitter to deactivate the alarm. If that works, you then need to have your remote checked and coded by a vw dealer.Good luck.

The VW Golf (2002) I have is setting off the alarm, the dash indicates that the tailgate is open, but appears to be closed. Is there a sensor on the tailgate that may be faulty?

The micro-switch is fitted inthe lock of the tailgate.Try opening the tailgate and manually close the lock and see if the boot light and the dash indicater light go off,if not, replace boot lock.If the lights go off, tailgate not closing properly, adjust the boot lock catch.Good luck

Audi fault code J386 (2002)

There's a TSB on that problem. It involves broken wires in the A and B pillar from the central convenience module to the rest of the car. Ask your VW dealership or what not for a more specific answer.
