I'm wiring a harness for a trailer hook up. 97 nissan pick up. I have the wiring schematics but does anyone have the codes for the colors of the wires. Is GY/L green yellow/ ? What is P/L pink/? G/Y green/yellow right? If anyone knows the color letters please respond.

Sidelight, break light, turn signal. You can use a test meter to identify.

Test the wires on the car and ID each ones function, brake light, tail light and so on, hook up to the correct wire on the trailer harness which does have a wiring diagram.

It sounds like your green and yello wires are shorted together somewhere along the length of the harness. I would check the wires on the trailer first. Easier yet, if you have another trailer to connec or access to another to use for testing, connect to it and see if the problem repeats; if it does the trouble is in the vehicle's wiring.

if you go to the parts store they make them ready to plug in you will have to just unplug the tail lights and plug the wire harness inplace of it then itll plug back into the original spot.

I suspect that the 4 wire harness includes a ground, so you may not be able to connect both brake lights and turn signals, which are separate lamps on the pickup. You may need to get an adapter.

In any case, the color codes on the pickup are:

Tail lights -- pink/blue
Brake Lights -- green/yellow
Left turn signal -- gray/blue
Right turn signal -- gray/red
Ground -- black

if you go to a hitch shop they usually have a plug that fit to stock harness for a price but its easier and safer
