Power steering I just bought a 93 lexus ls400. The power steering fluid was low. I filled that. The wheel is very hard to turn under 5mph. Over 5mph is fine. No noised or squeeks. Any suggestions?

I have 1992 LS400 (145,000 miles) that does the same thing. No noise, but is hard to steer at very low speeds. Does fine at higher speeds. It is also hard to steer as it de-cellerates (ie. slowing down on an exit ramp from the hi-way)

The car also has no power. The battery is new. I think when I exited the car after listening to the radio the steering did not go to lock because it will turn. Is there a easy fix?

Hi Offroad, I think that the noise is coming from the belt which driver the steering pump. Replace, tighten correctly and it should be fixed. Regards John

make sure all air is bleed out of the system by turning the wheel fully to one side then the other until the air is out of system and fluid level is at the correct level before replacing the solenoid.

How to tell if power steering oil is leaking on alternator 1991 ls400?

You can get a dye to put in the power steering reservoir it makes the fluid glow

Sound when turning the steering wheel

Your power steering fluid is low... Do not drive the car untill you fill this up... Have a look under the hood and you will see a small bottle saying power steering fluid only... Fill this up to the mark and it should back to normal... Check for leaks tho as its not normal for power steering to get that low unless the car has a poor service history or a leak. You may need to top it up again after filling it for the first time.

Why does power steering get harder at lower speeds

if the belt is nice and tight and is spinning around the pulley and fluids are full, then your steering pump is going bad

Changed power steering pump for lexus 1999 gs400 and it still doesnt work with the power steering I did purchase a used oem rack and pinion as well had the used parts both installed and it still is not...

you need to bleed the rack. you can try to turn the steering wheel to the left and hold for 5 sec and then to the right and hold, continue this a few times check fluid and repeat. you can also try to loosen line on rack and turn wheel to bleed air out then tighten before turning wheel again.

Power steering pump replaced, start to work ok, after 10 milles driving, steering wheel is hard, like pump is not working, under hood everything look ok.

YOU HAVE AIR IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP FIRST BEFORE DRIVING VECHICLE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL ADD MORE POWER STEERING UNTIL REACH FULL COLD MARK..RAISE VECHICLE FRONT WHEELS OFF THE GROUND.START ENGINE LET IT IDLE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT NON STOP DONT LOCK OR STOP STEERING WHEEL KEEP TURNING IT SEVERAL TIMES CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IF LOW ADD UNTIL YOU GET COLD MARK ON DIP STICK DONT OVER FILL POWER STEERING PUMP BLOW A SEAL.IF POWER STEERING FLUID LOOK TAN COLOR SYSTEM FULL OF AIR.TURN OFF IGNITION LET CAR SET FOR A WHILE CHECK FLUID LEVEL.IF STEERING WHEEL FEEL STIFF HARD TURNING DONT DRIVE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE NORMAL STEERING.IF STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM BLEED SYSTEM UNTIL AIR IS OUT.

1991 lexus ls400 power steeing slowly got hard to

As mentioned check ps fluid. If it wines when turning and still no power then the pump is internally bad.. If the fluid is dissapearing fast then its a hose or most likely a leaking rack& pinion assembly..

Loud noise when turning wheel red fluid leakage behind driver side tire no loss of power steering and persistantly louder when first driven and then noise almost goes away once 92 lexus ls 400 145000...

that could be the rack and pinion leaking. as far as the noise goes, it is more than likely the same thing. have your local mechanic check it out because if its the power steering pump its cheaper to fix that than it will be to have the rack replaced.
