THUMPING NOISE COULD BE BLISTER OR BUMP ON THE TIRE,IMPROPER SHOCK ABSORBER OR STRUT DAMPER ACTION.
Thanks hotchevy1965. The thumping only occurs when engine supplying power. Not evident at any speed when decelerating. Thumping increases in proportion to engine power input; worse when accelerating or steady hill climb. Front shock absorbers replaced last year. Recent 200,000km service including replacing timing belt and adjusting "tight tappets" fixed problem for a while, but came back in a week or so. Replacing left drive shaft also greatly improved it, but it is still there; waiting to see if it comes back fully again. Mechanic stumped and suggesting I should take it to a Honda dealer workshop.
LOOK FOR LOOSE DRIVE SHAFT BOLTS.IF ALL BOLTS TIGHT. YOU COULD HAVE WORN UNIVERSAL JOINT BEARINGS.
Thanks hotchevy1965. The CV joints in the left drive shaft had a little bit of play in them, but not much. So far the problem has not come back fully, so maybe that was it, and replacing the right side drive shaft will be worth it, if it takes away the last bit of the problem. Will wait another week and see.

Front shock absorbers replaced last year. Recent major service including new timing belt and "tight tappets" adjusted fixed it for a while, but problem soon returned. Left drive shaft changed, and again reduced it. Problem still there, but much better; waiting to see if it stays fixed this time.
