Mporteous, It sounds like you have a light switch problem. I can't think of any other reason for the running lights and tail lights not working in this situation. Are your brake lights working when the headlights are off and how about when they are on? Do your four ways hazard lights work in these situations? Try all the lights under these conditions. The reason the left turn signal blinks very fast is because one of the bulbs are burned out. Try the left signal and one light (front or back) will stay on and the other will not come on at all. Replace the bulb that does nothing. Do this before you try all the lights in different situations. I think that you will have to replace the light switch. Good luck with this.

brake lights and signals work when lights are off..tail lights and blinkers do not even illuminate when headlights or running lights are on..just so frustrating. Thanks for your advice and I will check the bulbs..checked the fuse today and it is fine.

I am having this same problem. Did you ever find out what the problem was?

I'm having the same exact problem. It's not the bulb. The tail does not work only when the bead lights are on. Any solutions?

    *head lights, not bead lights.

Replace all the turn signal bulbs if the flasher is faster than normal.

I have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Loredo 4x4. I have headlights, blinkers, flashers, but I DO NOT have break lights or running (rear) lights. Any suggestions. Can't afford to hire someone to look. I was told...

Have you checked the fuse, there is fuse for just the tail lamps. If it was isolated to brake lights only, I would suggest the switch attached to the brake pedal.

Rear light and brakelight don't work when headlights are turned on 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My first guess would be a ground problem.
The headlights and tail lights are controlled by the same headlight switch, but the brake lights are on a totally different circuit.
You may have to get a shop manual to get the wiring diagrams needed to troubleshoot the circuits if the ground connections are ok.
The lights involve the body computer and other components.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I had blinkers and flashers no brake lights, and after checking the bulbs in the light itself I dont have blinkers or flashers at all

Just no turn signals in the back now? Maybe didn't install the bulbs tight back into the asm? No brake lights...do the lights work with headlights on and just no illumination with the brake pedal depressed? Could be brake light switch.

Dashboard lights and tail lights don't work

Check the TAILGHT FUSE. GM's unusual way of letting you know there is something wrong. Otherwise how often do you check your tailight operation. Only by another driver telling you, your tailights aren't working, would you know. Hope this helps.
