I have a P2442 code which seems to be a secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2. Where is this located and can I do it myself!

This code indicates the secondary air injection pump may not be working correctly. The pump is located on the front passenger side wheel well. Turn the front wheels sharply to the right and remove the plastic cover on the wheel well. Don't waste time trying to preserve the plastic clips. It takes a special tool to remove them and it is easier to purchase new clips at Auto Zone for $3.99 a pack.

The pump is bolted on using three 12mm bolts. Remove the inlet tube and exhaust hose from the pump. The pump is wiring is connected directly to the motor with a two foot extension. The cable is feed through the same hole the outlet tube is in the fender well. It is terminated into a simply connector located on the front passenger side of the engine.

Remove the motor from inside the fender well. Remove the bolt located in the center of the plastic cover. Remove the bolts located on the corners of the housing. Inspect the blower for wear and moisture. Clean as necessary. Attach an extension wire to your battery. Please use caution before attaching them to the fan wires. The fan spine at high RPM's and it may startle you at first. Obviously if the fan turns it works move forward. If it doesn't there may be binding, carrions, or the motor is burned out. Inspect and repair. The worst case scenario is the small motor may need replaced.

This project will take about 2 hours to perform but it is worth your time verses the cost the dealer will charge you.

On a technical difficult scale of 1 -10 ten being the highest....this procedure is about a five.

I had the same code. I found that 2008 Tundra had two fans. I removed them and tested them both. They both work. I'm going to put them back on but wondered if you had any other solutions for my problem or any suggestions that I should try.

I reinstalled the fans and made sure they were plugged in tight. Started the vehicle and the fans aren't running. What could be the cause of this?

The valve is stuck open due to water intrussion. replace the valve and clear the code and that will solve the problem
temporary solution: remove the valve and then remove the two screws holding the cover and use a hammer to close the valve put it back together
disconect the hair pumps to prevent the valve from opening and clear the code you will get a CEL but no more VSC and no more limp mode
if you need to move the car while in limp mode connect a code reader and have somebody clear the code while you drive it will restore the power to the car some times you have to clear the code more than 3 times before it clears for a while

The secondary air injection valves stuck open codes can be caused by a damaged secondary air injection pump or the valves physically leaking or stuck open.
Often times when an air pump is failing it can no longer create enough pressure to force air into the exhaust when the air valves open, when that happens the exhaust flows through the valves towards the air pump and a pressure sensor in the system picks up the exhaust pulsations triggering the valve stuck open codes. Typically if you can clear the valve stuck open code after your initial engine warmup for the day and the valve stuck open code does not come back on it is because the air pump is failing. It is more often the air pump than the valve. It can also sometimes be a damaged pressure sensor but this is usually after the vehicle remains to be driven with a valve that is leaking exhaust which can damage the sensor.
We do have solutions for the code though and would be glad to help you resolve your problem for a fraction of the cost to replace the system.

You have take it off and do no open ok , only blow by your mouth and if you feel leak is no good , its happened me in tundra 2007 v8 4.7 85k miles , code P2442 bank 2
    I'll expalin better : Bank 1 right side ( driver motor )
Bank 2 left side ( passenger side )
You can check the pumps directly from the battery and if works is good , but the valves can not leak in any moment ,
My symptoms in the truck was Check engine light on , Trac on and VSC Off flashing , the rpm below 2500 , called as limp mode , I let you know that some Toyota Tundra have a bank with both valves ok , I hope help you guys.

This is a weakness on all models of the tundra. there is a guy who makes a kit to bypass the running of this pump. (may not be street legal, but for off road use only...you decide) The vehicle sensors detect the temperature of the vehicle and if cold, the run these pumps for 1 minute to help pre-heat the cadlilidic converters. The mod kit fools the ECM into not running the pumps. (The AIR pumps are the same as a chevy, but cost 10x more from Toyota.)

I replaced my secondary air check valve on my 2001 chevy tahoe but code 1416 still comes up. what else can i check

here is what i found on p1416.

P1416 Chevrolet
P1416 Chevrolet - Secondary Air Injection System Bank 2
Possible causes
- Faulty Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump
- Secondary Air Injection check valve bank 2
- Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump electrical circuit fault
- Blocked Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system

When is the code detected?

The P1416 code is set when no O2 sensor voltage change is detected by the Engine Control Module (ECM).

Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P1416 Chevrolet Description
An Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump is used on this vehicle to lower tail pipe emissions on start-up. The PCM supplies a ground to the AIR pump relay, which energizes the AIR pump. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the HO2S voltages to diagnose the AIR system. During the AIR test the PCM activates the AIR pump during closed loop operation. When the AIR is activated, the PCM monitors the HO2S voltages and short term fuel trim values for both banks of the engine. If the AIR system is operating properly, the HO2S voltages should go low and the short term fuel trim should go high.
