What does a test of your battery conclude? How does it test under a load? Volts? Have the battery tested. If the battery test good right now then I can rule out the alternator. I might test the alternator again on a load tester not just a multi meter to see if it is functioning properly. I find it odd that replacing the battery worked for a brief time and now it don't again.
A battery in new or even good condition should not read 12 volts. It should read around 13volts when idle and when started it should read around 14.5 or more when running. But it is not to far off.
So your fuel pump relay is under the glove box on the side of the dash. Check that. These are known to stick for your year and model of vehicle. Tap it with your knuckle a time or two and see if that knocks it into working again. When you turn the ignition over you will not hear the second huming from it if that relay is bad. Check that relay.

The fuse is not the same as the relay. There should be two hums that come from that relay. Did you receive the video I posted for you? Relays can function intermittently as well.

When you turn the key on to start the car listen carefully for the number of times it clicks. I have to know the exact number of times to tell you if the relay is bad or not. Turn the key all the way and tell me the times it click while holding the key. Thank you.
These relays give a lot of trouble with working intermittently. In fact many Volvo owner carry a spare or two because they just go bad. If it were me I would replace it. It should click once on and once off.

It could be a few things. But when diagnosing sometimes you have to test and try. Some folks have swore the relay was good and put a new one in and presto it worked. this could be the fuel pump, ignition coil, spark plugs, a slew of things. I start with the most known things and go from there. This relay should click once to connect with ignition on and once upon shutting the ignition off. Some car relays click up to three times but not your Volvo. The only way to be sure in this case is to try a new one. Diagnosing can be tedious but that's why mechanics are paid so well. They go through these tedious steps. Give it a shot and let me know. I am on here every day all day. From 1800GMT to 2000hrs GMT. When I am not on I am in bed for 6 hours or so. I check comments continually. I stick with the customer till the end.

Do you have any dash lights on? Not from the car dying, that is normal for the light to do that when power is lost. Codes read sensors, and while on rare occasions a sensor can be just bad enough to malfunction but not bad enough to trip a code most of the time a light will come on indicating a code has been tripped. You can try to get codes read but it may be a waste of money if you have no steady dash lights on. The parts store will read codes for free sometimes but they are often just a code to be crossed with the Volvo codes. In short if you have not dash light staying on, when the car is running, I don't think it will help.

i need more details
We have tested the alternator and it is charging the battery. It has been checked twice both places said the alternator is fine. Also before the car dies I push on the gas but its as if the car is not getting fuel. I have read about a fuel relay and that could be the issue
I just replaced the battery and it was starting at 12with the car off then went to 14 when It was started that is why they believed it not to be the alternator.
Fuel relay is humming. We replaced the fuse under the right fender and it is starting again but it is still dying when were driving.
The relay is clicking. I don't here much of a hum. It clicks then thats all I hear
I found the relay and now how to change but how do I know if thats the issue it makes a clicking noise not really a hum. The car is dying then I can't resart for a bit then it starts back up again.
i know the fuse is separate but it was bad and that is why it was not starting. As for the clicking I hear a click or two
It click 1..2 then clicks when I shut it off
clicks twice then once when I shut off the car
Its clicking twice I just hate to replace it if its not the issue. Its like 50 bucks. I may just have to return if its not it. Is there anything else it could be?
