      Determining what error codes mean

Each of the hundreds of automobile manufacturers worldwide has the option of designing their own codes for the computers in their cars & trucks.
      They do so.
Then different model of vehicles have their own codes as well, which can change from year to year.
Car parts stores, and repair shops, have machines that can read these codes, and can tell you what they mean.
However, because of their design, there is much overlap.
That means a single code can have 2 or 3 or even 5 reasons for the code to show up.
God bless your understanding and your efforts.

Quest idles rough and when accelerating and service engine light is flashing

Nobody can answer correctly until you (or let someone) read OBD code.

"Check Engine Light flashing" means there is (or are) potential error on system.
(Flashing = Potential. maybe temporally, stays on = permanent. need to fix)
there are 100s of error codes.

When you go Autozone or some autoparts store maybe AAA, they can connect "OBD code reader" and read error code for you for free.
You can buy cheap code reader under $30 for now and future use.

Code may show like P0301, it means misfire on #1 cylinder for example.
sometimes just gas cap not tight closed show error code.
Reading OBD error code is starting point .

What does it mean for your car to only run on two engine cylinders

it means that there are only two cylinders actually working properly , as a rule most engine's have either four or six cylinders,if your car is only running on two i'm surprised it actually gets you any where , you will need to get the OBD codes read to discover what is going on , any decent mechanic will be able to read the OBD for you

Orange light written check keeps on coming up what does it mean?

You'll have to get someone to read the engine code that's causing the light to come on. Someone that can pull and read the OBD-1 Codes. OBD-1 codes are much more difficult than cars made after 195 which are OBD-2. You might be able to do it yourself with a good repair manual found at any autopart store. Good Luck

Warning light on dash what on..what does it mean

      Hi Sneekygirl9!

The light you described is the "check engine" light, and it means that the on-board diagnostic (OBD) computer has detected a problem and set a "trouble code" in the computer memory. Some of these are minor, some are SERIOUS, and a few are just computer glitches.

The OBD either has detected a bad sensor or control circuit, or a sensor reading that is inconsistent (doesn't add up!) to the situation.

AutoZone, among other places, now offers free diagnostic scans, which is what you need to do! They will plug into your car's OBD-II diagnostic port, and the scanner will read the OBD's memory, and give a read out of what trouble code or codes have been set (example: P1536). They will then interpret the code by going to a chart specific to your vehicle and tell you what these trouble codes mean and hopefully point you in the right direction for fixing the problem. And they will also clear the OBD's memory, clearing the check engine light.

Sneekygirl9, I think this answers your question... and don't hesitate to post comments or ask for more help if you need, and let us know how it goes!

      Thanks!
      WildBill
