My 98 dodge caravan would cut off while I was driving. The problem seemed to be the grounding wire that is connected to my positive battery pole. After the wire was regrounded the van will crank up but will stall out when put in gear and trying to drive off. I changed the fuel pump, fuel filter, map sensor and throttle position sensor. My van still stalls out and cuts off when I try to accelerate. What can the problem be?

Very possible its is a bad IAC (idle air control motor) issue which controls the idle. its a common problem and they do wear out, also when disconnecting the battery the computer forgets the idle settings and needs to relearn the idle .

SOURCE: 96 Dodge Intrepid ES, engine stalls

Find your firewall electrical junction block (where all the wires enter the cabin on the passenger side) and with a zip tie pull up the wire bundle so it does not ride on the upper tie rods and, fasten the zip tie to anything that is solid in the engine compartment and, let me know what happens

SOURCE: Van leaps and stalls when parked. Fuel filter?

Then you might want to idle the low idle speed up a half a turm to see if that sovles the problem.

A bad vacuum line will cause this code also. Also it will cause a rough idle and stalling. Open the hood and listen for a hissing sound. track it and you,ll find the leak. Also I would just check all the lines to make sure another in not ready to go.

Ok without all the matter tech gold five star blah blah- just disconnect the battery ground remove the panel under the steering wheel locate the yellow wire connector remove the safety clip then unplug the connector. Do not cut the wire
Any static discharge can deploy the air bag so just unplug it and reassemble the dash and connect battery. Thi doesn't not clear a warning light

Which side is the positive and negative on starter

The casing on the starter is always the negative. One pole on the starter is for power and the smallest pole is for the ignition wire to link to, or it can be a plug on some cars and trucks. One of the larger poles will have a wire that goes into the starter that is not the pole that you should ever put the cable from the battery on it will be the pole that does not have a wire on it.

As seen in this pic terminal M has the wire that goes to the starter that should never have a wire atached to it from the battery. Terminal S is the ingition wire, and terminal B is the pole for the battery cable. The holes for the casing are the ground from the motor to the starter. I hope that this helps you.

1998 dodge caravan. dash lights don't come on and it won't start. put van on computer and it read no codes.

You may have lost a major ground. The places to look are as follows; 1. Check the main battery to engine ground(black). 2. Check the ground wire pigtail that splits off from the main groun to the engine. This wire will connect to the inner fenderwell on the passenger side. 3.Ckeck for a braided flat wire without coating running from the firewall to the engine intake manifold, usually the bolt that mounts thios wire to the engine is one of the intake mounting bolts. Good luck, Dana

98 dodge caravan problems

I had the same issue with my dodge caravan and after several attempts by the dealer to fix it, it turned out to be a broken wire. They replaced the relay and it would work for a while and then go blank again. Have the wires checked thoroughly.
