yes it is a 6.0 diesel engine. I understand what you are saying, but the brakes work fine. Could it still be a brake booster problem?

Do you have a diesel engine in the truck?

If so, because of the fact that the engine is turbocharged, and you have no vacuum in the intake, but instead turbo boost, the brake booster (behind the master cylinder on the firewall) is probably a "Hydrovac" type booster.

If it is, it is run by the same circuit as your power steering (ie. Your power steering pump feeds fluid to the brake booster to supply "power brakes" to the truck).

If this is the case, you might have a faulty brake booster assembly which robs the pressure available to your steering box when the brakes are applied.

2006 f350 crew 4x4. Replaced p/s pump, booster, put gauges to check pressure? Fluid clean, lifted in air to check steering linkage and turning without load. Still baffled ! I work at a Ford dealer and mechanics said its normal. Thats BS! I replaced the p/s pump so im guessing the screen was new with the pump. I will check for the hell of it. I have a feeling it is suspension under load. The symptom on this truck is not turning when brake applied. Also hard turning when vehicle is on and in park, wont turn.

I have the same thing with my 2001 f350, I suspect the brakes reduce the pressure to the power steering. I have been looking for a higher performance pump but have not found one that would work. It seems to me that if you increase the working pressure then the brakes won't rob enough to cause the steering wheel to be feel heavy or stop. Or one could covert the system to a vac. boosted brake system, My 1996 F350( I had be for) had a vac. pump driven of the belt. I had it go out pulling my toy hauler, still had some brakes but had to push really hard to get stopped. Might be room under there for both.

I have the same problem with a 2003 F350 6.0L diesel, i have been told by the dealer that if your foot is on the brake your steering wont turn because of the same thing aubd was mentioning with the hydrovac. I recently went to another shop and he has an F350 that used to have a similar problem to mine where the powersteering is hard to turn when stopped and your foot wasnt on the brake he said that there is a little microscreen in the pump that is probably clogged. He suggested that I take the high pressure line off and the screen is right there, then just to blow it out.
Hope this helped.

2004 chevy Tahoe. hard to turn left. turn right is ok

steering rack or gear . 2X2 - 4X4 engine . Depends on steering system .
When you turn the steering wheel, the steering gear rotates the pitman arm which forces the relay rod to one side. The tie rods connect to the relay rod with the ball studs. The tie rods transfer the steering force to the wheels. Use the tie rods in toe adjustments. The tie rods are adjustable. The pitman arm support the relay rod. The idler arm pivots on a support attached to the frame rail and the ball stud attaches to the relay rod.
The 2 tie rod are threaded into the tube and secured with jam nuts. Right and left hand threads are used in order to permit the adjustment of toe.

Power Steering System Description and Operation (w/o Electro-Hydraulic Steering)
The hydraulic power steering pump is a constant displacement vane-type pump that provides hydraulic pressure and flow for the power steering gear. The hydraulic power steering pumps are either belt-driven or direct-drive, cam-driven.
The power steering fluid reservoir holds the power steering fluid and may be integral with the power steering pump or remotely located. The following locations are typical locations for the remote reservoir:
• Mounted to the front of the dash panel
• Mounted to the inner fender
• Mounted to a bracket on the engine
The 2 basic types of power steering gears are listed below:
• A recirculating ball system
• A rack and pinion system
In the recirculating ball system, a worm gear converts steering wheel movement to movement of a sector shaft. A pitman arm attached to the bottom of the sector shaft actually moves one tie rod and an intermediate rod move the other tie rod.
In the rack and pinion system, the rack and the pinion are the 2 components that convert steering wheel rotation to lateral movement. The steering shaft is attached to the pinion in the steering gear. The pinion rotates with the steering wheel. Gear teeth on the pinion mesh with the gear teeth on the rack. The rotating pinion moves the rack from side to side. The lateral action of the rack pushes and pulls the tie rods in order to change the direction of the vehicle's front wheels.
The power steering pressure hose connects the power steering pump union fitting to the power steering gear and allows pressurized power steering fluid to flow from the pump to the gear.
The power steering return hose returns fluid from the power steering gear back to the power steering fluid reservoir. The power steering return line may contain an integral fin-type or line-type power steering fluid cooler.
In a typical power steering system, a pump generates hydraulic pressure, causing fluid to flow, via the pressure hose, to the steering gear valve assembly. The steering gear valve assembly regulates the incoming fluid to the right and left chambers in order to assist in right and left turns.
Turning the steering wheel activates the valve assembly, which applies greater fluid pressure and flow to 1 side of the steering gear piston, and lower pressure and flow to the other side of the piston. The pressure assists the movement of the gear piston. Tie rods transfer this force to the front wheels, which turn the vehicle right or left.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

My alternator loses power when i make 3 point turns

Several things to look at besides the alternatot
one steering gear box needs lube or bearing replacement
power steering pump is failing
water pump failing
ac pump failing
check all steering linkage make sure that maintenance is not due
disconnect belts power steering wheel should rotate after spin same as ac pump and water pump if after a second they stop spinning have them in spected as these are signs of premature failure

now with engine normal sluggishness and power drain is normal not a big drop in power but some normal
idle control sensors and throttle position sensors probably need maintenance these can lead to power drops

all listed above is simple diy checking maintenance

NO POWER STEERING AND NO BRAKES WE CHANGED P/S PUMP AND THE HYDRO BOOST NOW WHAT

The brakes and the Power Steering are two different systems and two different problems. The brake problem is going to be a caliper or master cylinder issue which maybe a Vacuum issue if the Power Booster hose is leaking or disconnected from the master cylinder. The power steering is going to be low fluid in the power steering pump, faulty power steering pump (Obvious if you were hearing a whine that got louder as you turned the wheels, or the Power assist piston that connects to the tie rods.

It has a diesel engine so brakes get pressure off of power steering pump.

power assist come from power sterrig pump
brake master cylinder produces brake pressure
if no pwer assist check power sterring fluides and lines
assuming the pump is good do to steering o.k.(not mention)
if no pedal pressure check fluide level top up and depressed sevral time then check for leakage if nothing found may be flowing back to powersterring reservoir check to see if level whent up

Good day. Please check that all fan and V bellts are in place. Your power steering pump runs with a belt, and the brakes could be of the hydraulic type. Check your power steering pump for failure if all else fails. Hope this helps

Lost all power steering fluid and brakes

Hi Salmancasmi,
On vehicles with a hydraulic booster you will find that the power steering pump supplies fluid through bot the steering gear box and the hydraulic booster.
Just a visual inspection of the system should point you to the part that failed, most likely a hose. These can be obtained through your local parts store or dealership.
Locate and replace the failed part, refill the reservoir with power steering fluid. With the front of the truck on jack stands, start the truck and turn the steering wheel from full left to full right several times while pumping the brakes. This will remove the air from the system. Recheck for leaks and fluid level and you'll be on your way.
Hope that helps, good luck.
