I got code PO 305 on a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, what is the spark plug wire part called
This will have a direct coil over ignition with a coil over each spark plug. The coil is the electrical part over the spark plug. The coil also has a rubber part that is called the boot or spark plug boot. The boots can be purchased separately but the coils will come with new boots.

is it #5 coil,

Have you checked to see if there is any spark coming out of the number 5 coil?

and should I replace the coil and spark plug and what should the spark plug be gapped at?

When was the last time the spark plugs where changed? It may be due for all the spark plugs to be changed. The spark plug gap is usually listed on the emissions sticker under the hood. It should be .050 - .056 or very close to that.

Mercury grand marquis 2001 change spark plugs and coil but misfire code po305 still check light still on plus hestiating when accerlating on gas pedal

If you changed an individual ignition coil based on
a PO305 & that didn't resolve the issue, then either
the code didn't help & you have a different coil bad or
several

Put back the old coil on #5 & check codes again & walk
a new coil until you get the bad one or more

If you have a shop put a scan tool on it-- use Mode #06
to check misfire counts

Sometimes that doesn't get a really hit & miss coil & your
back to walking all those coils not replaced in the last couple
years

2001 mercury grand marquis reading code p305 misfire, spark plugs and coils changed

If you changed the #5 Coil then the code was wrong

You get lots of wrong codes on a ford, as a bad coil
spikes the pcm when grounding out to fire the coils
secondary side

Try putting the old coil back & walking the new one to
another cylinder, may take many days & many miles of
driving to get it fix,but better than a shop guessing, because
they hate fords

What do spark plug wires for a grand marquis 2000 look like?

This engine does not have wires. It has what is known as COP coil over plug. Each spark plug has its own ignition coil mounted on top of it. The boot portion is replaceable if needed. one small bolt should hold each one down and has a small connector on each.

Where are the spark plugs located on a 2000 Mercury grand Marquis?

There are eight COPs (coil-on-plugs) to remove. Using a 7mm or 9/32" socket, remove each bolt securing each COP to the intake manifold on top of the engine. Remove all eight COPs, and the spark plugs are underneath. When replacing the spark plugs, use only the proper Ford/Motorcraft plugs, even if they cost twice as much as the aftermarket ones. You will avoid further headaches this way. Hope this helps.

Where are the spark plugs located

On these models Ford/Mercury included the coil and the spark plug wires in one unit. The coils are black and round, they have a wire connector to each one. In order to pull the coil, you need to disconnect the wire and remove the bolt holding the coil pack in place. After doing this, you can pull the coil pack out; then you can pull out the spark plug with a 5/8 spark plug socket.

Changing plugs in '04 grand marquis.

The new system is called a DIS (digital ignition system). Plugs are changed the same as usual, just without the cap and rotor. Instead of a single coil, now the new system has COPs (Coil over plugs) installed, these are recommended to be replaced around 75000miles and they are costly. hopefully this helps
